That's an interesting theory Slava. I think one indication of his promotion is that they'll probably stay the course to show added value once the BB10 platform is out, then they'll ask others to bid for the company. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure they're fielding offers but they're not getting great value as you'd imagine. Samsung as rumored, would be a very nice fit, but I can't see any other companies developing RIM's software further. Apple has OSX, Windows has WP7, others including Samsung have Android, but I can see the huge value in Samsung having BBM on their phones exclusively to takeover the workspace and more importantly, have that oneup over Apple and also the general Android phone market. WP7 is somewhat of an afterthought this year until Windows 8 comes out and can be integrated with the desktop.

He has been called the Warren Buffett of Canada and while I can hear the "RIM needs innovation" cries, the reality is that his expertise and guidance is a huge addition.
I'm sure there are quite a few people at RIM capable of being innovate. Ballsillie and his sidekick just obviously weren't interested in listening to them.

RIM needs direction and guidance, which Watsa should provide.

I'm thinking Blackberry's way out of the woods here is to get out of the hardware race which they are getting killed in between Apple and Android/Google and work on their strengths in software, systems, networking, business services.

Kinda like what IBM did years ago. No one buys a personal IBM anymore. But after some lean years they are big and strong once more.

IBM have reinvented themselves more times than mainstream television. Damn fine software.

No one buys a personal IBM anymore because they dont make them - they get Lenovo to do the dirty work.

I love my Blackberry! But I also use my phone for text, email and phone. If I want to play Angry Birds I'll look at moving over to iPhone one day.

i have a blackberry for anything that requires typing and an android for apps (and phoning because its $40.00 for unlimited data and north american calling)

i hate touchscreen so cant bear getting rid of my bold. in fact, i had the torch and went back the bold cuz the torch was too big and clunky.

what does this have to do with a new CEO at RIM? no idea, lol

I think RIM is totally screwed. Their new marketing campaign this year is "Be Bold".

Their horrendously pathetic marketing team came up with this. This is even more embarrassing than the NHL superheroes.

The purileness of this disgusts me. How can they expect to be taken seriously? What idiot actually came up with this marketing? It's so pathetic, it's hard to believe that it's real.

RIM, take a cue from IBM. Lose your competitive advantage in your core consumer products business? Retool, get out, and focus on your business image. Who is this kind of garbage trying to sell to?

Wow that ad is confusing and slightly stupid. I don't see how it sells phones.

Someone was reading comics and thought it would be cool to create his own Cartoon characters.

In a world of 140 characters or less, RIM throws us a wall of words... and childish cartoon characters.

My lord.

Thoughts and prayers.

It's not even the lame characters and horrible graphic design decisions that bug me...it's the lame fake tweets that someone actually sat down and wrote on purpose based on some management edict to pretend to be people "Being Bold"

Any proof of that? I tried finding them on twitter via Google, but the complaining about the ad campaign seems to have removed any chance of me finding them quickly. A quick look at @mmbeachbum's twitter feed and it won'tshow me anything older than Jan 25.

If so, that's just despicable.
