Wales argued that these transparent statements make the MPAA out to be a corrupt, Congress-buying organization. He also challenged Dodd’s assertion that Wikipedia’s decision to blackout its site in protest of SOPA, an effort Wales said was a “massive success,” constituted an abuse of power.

the MPAA bought those legislators fair and square! How dare Jimmy bypass their near monopoly on popular media to distribute a message that is not in the MPAA's best interest! Arrest that man!

Hey photon I had no idea about Crunchyroll, I checked it out and obviously have to sign up for it.
They don't have everything, but quite a few, more than I would have thought.

They have iPhone and iPad apps too, the free level quality is horrible but I assume it'll be better if one signs up.
I actually haven't signed up because that's too much anime, though I guess I should since the ones I watch are on there, just afraid I'll get involved in too many series.
One other concern is I've heard that the quality of their subbing isn't that great (which is where fansubs are usually awesome), but given the volume they do it's probably hit and miss.

See, if the creators of those shows wanted to target the North American audience, they could have possibly uploaded the episodes onto Megaupload, and created a website where NA users could download them from. MU would pay them accordingly.
It will happen with time. But first we'll pay a bunch of lawyers millions of dollars to push this through the court system.

It's not just the lawyers, its actually the MPAA and studios themselves trying to protect their outdated business models that's really the problem.
Will Wheaton recently spoke out about this saying "MPAA and studio accounting creates more losses than piracy"
http://www.techdirt.com/articles/201...n-piracy.shtml
Basically on any film production, actors/actresses are paid a base and then a cut of the profits. By default a contract is written so these people are paid a cut of the net profits and not gross profits... so after expenses. Unless it's the star, most actors/actresses can't demand a cut of the gross profits. Studios and the MPAA will charge everything they possibly can to expenses so most films will never turn a net profit.
Take for example "The Return of the Jedi". Arguably one of the biggest films of all time. According to Lucasfilms and the guy who played Darth Vader, it still hasn't turned a profit to this day.

Sad thing is many artists are just blissfully unaware of things like this and still support the studios.

i quickly signed up for a sendspace account and got all the remaining episodes i was too lazy to download from megaupload. $10 for a month but at least my parents and inlaws are happy again.

IF the anime is ever released in North America, there is a good chance it would be in 1-3 years - and that is a big if. Not every anime makes it to English.
The anime shows which I enjoy and are released in NA, I buy. I do my best to support the genre I enjoy.
But I guess the letter of the law says I am a thief.

Not sure if it's related but after megaupload and megavideo got shut down, the comic store had their biggest one day anime sales in 3 years!
I'm doing the animethon convention this weekend so hopefully my dvd/blu ray sales would be great too!

A great example of all of this is what "a friend" of mine does to watch Big Bang Theory. CBS stupidly and shortsightedly blocks GoogleTV from watching full episodes on CBS.com, even though connecting a laptop or HTPC to a TV would allow it. So instead of watching CBS commercials, which they were more than willing to do, this person would spend 10 minutes trying to find a working MegaUpload copy to stream on MegaVideo. Now he just downloads them, which is even worse for the industry, since theoretically it hurts DVD sales more than streaming them.

Exactly.
It's easier to watch Jersey Shore on mtv.ca than it is to find a stream or torrent for it, and it's available sooner to view.
My wife and I are willing to watch the shorter advertisement periods than going the extra 2 steps to stream it illegal based on the not having to make two extra clicks. If that's not a testament to the backwards approach to the existing media structure, I don't know what is.
Just make it easy to consume and people will consume it.

Anonymous is a joke!
They are going to fight crime and censorship through DNS?
They are going to fix our problems?
A serious issue they are clouding. If they want to talk, fine. If they want to be revolutionaries, fine.
But what is this wet noodle? They have softened.
They are just getting in the way.
Talk about PIPA (SOPAx2) Please.
Regular citizens over hackers.
