Not for me. If today was Monday, this weekend is five days from now.
This past weekend would be yesterday

In this scenario, does " next weekend" refer to:
- The weekend coming up in ~3 days
- The weekend after the one coming up (~10 days)

Would it have been more clear if he asked: Hey, do you want to go to the oilers game next weekend?

Using 'this' is unnecessary. Just say 'the weekend' for the one upcoming, and 'next weekend' for weekend after next.
Oh wait... There's a glitch in the Matrix.

A would be grammerically correct
B would be socially correct

Although most people will pick B, it doesn't make sense. It is the more widely accepted use though.
If it's Wednesday, the next Friday you encounter will be in two days.
If it's Wednesday, the next day would be Thursday. You wouldn't say I'll see you on the next day and then show up on Friday.
The next round of golf I play will be today. It won't be the second round I play.
If my friend says he'll pay me the $10 he owes me the next time he sees me, he'll pay me the first time he sees me, not the second time.

Wrong.
The weekend is part of this week, hence the the name "weekend". So it's this weekend. The last weekend was last weekend. The weekend after next is next weekend.
However, socially, next weekend means the upcomming weekend. It's wrong though.

Both.

We now know that in every event that goes from order to disorder, there's a link to the Big Bang itself, giving us the arrow of time. The common sense notion that one true time governs the universe has given way to a picture in which time is different for each and every one of us. And the flow of time, which seems to us as real as the flow of a river, may be nothing more than an illusion. Past, present and future may all exist on equal footing.

Celebrated Square Root Day

Oh wow, this thread has really taken off since the last time I viewed it and everyone was in agreement that it was B. Here's how I look at it.
This weekend - upcoming weekend
Next weekend - weekend after this weekend
This past weekend - weekend that just past
The third one cancels out the confusion of "this weekend" possibly meaning the weekend that just past.

Right now it's 2011. This year is 2011. Next year is 2012, not 2013.
