The sexism has been pretty obvious all over the place in the media and in here since she switched sides.

She's been called a whore, a prostitute, ugly, attractive, a slut, an ugly slut, a blonde bombshell. There have been suggestions that she is having sex with Martin and whoever else.

Do you guys honestly believe that kind of language would have been used if Myron Thompson switched sides? I don't.

I can understand the term power-whore I guess.

Funny to note the 'whore' calling of Martin started right around the same time that the CPC posters/party were called out for their portrayal of Stronach as a prostitute, etc. I don't recall people referring to Martin as a whore/prostitute/slut last week... Maybe you could scrounge the board and find an example of this type of name-calling before the Belinda defection?

NOW they're using the sexual terms in reference to Martin, in a desperate attempt to say 'look, we're not just classless towards women, we're classless towards everyone!'

You can probably tell I've been pretty emotional in a few threads the last couple days. But I haven't got too into the name-calling debate. I'm somewhere in the middle...not a bleeding heart but not really one to resort to it. I wondered if I could get away with it, and you're exactly correct. Nobody cared about Martin or Harper being on the receiving end. Makes you think a little.

And I also think Bend-it-like caught me too. I was a little high-and-mighty. Really, from being very active in a few of these threads in the past day I think many of us, while agruing quite a bit, are really more-or-less the same.

Ironically I make the same conclusion when I visit Vancouver / Toronto / Ottawa / Halifax. (And I live in Calgary but am from Manitoba). So that's one thing I'll never be a hypocrite about...the government and the people should be more concerned with working together than working against each other. (Hope that doesn't come across as too "High-and-Mighty")

Just to make things clear, words like slut, whore, are not appropriate to describe anybody, males and females alike. So I find there is no justification to use classless words like that to describe anybody. If people wanna crucify Stronach, as a representative of your party, have the decency to to use actual facts and evidence rather than resorting to petty name calling otherwise, you're no better than the Liberals you hate.

Calling one woman a whore is detrimental to that woman. Whore does not refer to every woman it refers to a select few.

Calling a black man a racial slur is detrimental to that man and the entire black population. That slur is in reference to their entire race.

No, when you use 'whore', in the sense that it's been bandied about here, you're using it to refer to any woman who is ambitious, any woman who values her personal lot above her loyalty to her workplace. You're saying that a woman who is willing to trade loyalties for an improved lot in life is equivelant to someone who trades their sexuality for money.
