Who cares what the polls say.

Facts still are that the long-gun registry does absolutely nothing when it comes to stopping gun related crime.

There was a study done recently that highlighted the idea that effective social programs do more to combat crime than a gun registry ever will.

The registry was nothing more than a ridiculous feel good program put in place by dumb politicians who don't want to sit down and discuss what the REAL reasons behind gun crime are. The sad part is that there are so many people out there that actually think this program does anything else than waste our time and money.

Ya no I saw the web poll on there. It's not technically the same thing as a national poll by a polling firm though it is very impressive/decisive.

Phone isn't any better, most people hang up when a telemarketer comes on.

I do agree with most of what you're saying here. Good to know that by this same logic you would be opposed to the omnibus crime bill? The root cause of crime is clearly not addressed, and its basically a feel good bill as well.

I oppose the crime bill. I would prefer to see a few items in it passed, with a few additions of my own. But items like the mandatory minimums for growing pot go against logic.

I absolutely oppose the crime bill. Completely ridiculous and costly as well.

Tough on crime is a stupid mantra that some Conservatives think will somehow fix all our crime problems. The US did the same thing in the 80s, and they are suffering because of it now.

Is anyone else concerned that of 103 senators only 77 showed up to vote.
They get $130000 a year and typically sit three days a week with 2-3 months off in the summer, a month or so at Christmas and random weeks off scattered throughout the year.

What are we going to do about it? The Senate should have been abolished a long time ago if they aren't going to elect them.

I thought there was a big uproar 10 years ago over a senator who hadn't set foot in the country in several years and they cracked down on attendance.

I like the idea of elected senators sitting for fixed lengths of time but in the absence of that there should be mandatory attendance like any other job. Or maybe I missed it and they were all out sick and will return with doctor's notes.
