We are hearing a lot of the semi conductor work is coming back to the US due to cost/quality issues. Intel, ON Semi, Marvell, Fujitsu, are all hiring big in Phoenix

They do a lot more than that, you know. At least in my field. My company (semiconductors) has a few number of design centers in China. A lot of that "cheap labor" is going other countries with lower cost.

Still, the majority of the profit created in the US is created by the financial industry.

Not exactly the grounds for a strong economy.

The US Government should be actively trying to get companies like Apple, Samsung, Intel, HTC and others to invest their money in the US to build their products.

Cheap labor might be awesome, but automation is better, and the US has more highly trained people capable of automating the making of the iPhone.

Where are you hearing that? 14nm is pretty crazy, I can see why that would be in the USA.

I don't really work in recruiting so I don't know exact numbers (other than a few groups expanding in Asia) but I remember Intel doing a big hiring in India:

41 million people are on food stamps right now in the USA.

Single file, facing forward and sixteen inches from your toes to the next person's toes, this breadline would cover both sides of the entire length of the Trans Canada highway. Holding hands, not even stretching their arms, they could easily circle the globe.

I heard their troops are coming home from Iraq. The cynic in me wonders if the drones are coming back too. It also wonders who will be left in their Baghdad *embassy* that is larger than the Vatican. And what about the thousands of mercenaries er, I mean contractors? Will they be coming home too?

Default Job list for Semi's in PHX metro

Intel is building the new fab in addition to the others already here plus Honeywell, On Semi, Motorola etc.

A lot cheaper to live here than CA.

Went to ASU with a bunch of Intel guys and they commented on increases here. They also did say that if you go to the China operation for 2+ years it really helps you move up in the company too.

That and First Solar is building a manufacturing plant in Mesa that I believe uses similar technology. I could be wrong. Maybe the Intel people were specifically talking about the new fab. Could be they are building the new cutting edge stuff here and sending all the older more common work to Asia. That would make sense.

Thanks for the response, TJ. I know my company has a big design center in AZ as well. I think the one you are talking about is the fabs, as far as Intel goes. Of coarse, they are hiring in the USA but they are really upping Asia hiring as well. I vaguely remember hearing form a Intel recruiter that there was some sort of government (sponsership? request? ask nicely?) about trying to keep Intel and IBM jobs in the USA.

I know China does a lot of difficult work, and we've recently started to send some easier easier design work to India. There's no doubt in my mind that companies are expanding into Asia. I also know a lot of people that are essentially in Asia half the time (but located/paid in the USA) which makes me think they are definitely trying to bring things up across the pond.
