Nope. It's actually pretty flat (Zetterberg curve). Shooting backhand just feels really, really weird for some reason, and it shows by the marshmallows I put on net. I always mean to work on it, but it's way more fun taking clappers and trying to score top ched in shinny
It's a skill that I wish I could have developed a lot earlier in life.

Pretty good!! There is a seniors skate session from 2:15 to 3:30 on tuesdays/thursdays at Civic, that is when one of the other coaches goes out and coaches some guy that wanted lessons. I'm at the rink on tuesdays teaching KidSkate until 2 anyways, so I usually just stay and go chat with all the seniors or watch what Mitch (the other skating coach) teaches the hockey player. That, or there usually is a lot of public ice available!

Obviously skating (speed, acceleration, stopping with my left foot rather than always my right), slap shots (never learned), stick handling.
I am decent at wrist shots and usually pretty accurate.

Skating backwards, hockey stopping. I fail at both.

See how when he comes around the corner there is the stopping motion, and then the change of direction? It's a two foot stop and then he changes direction. When you approach the circle, glide on your right foot, turn your hips and touch your left heel to your right heel, then step backwards on your left foot (now gliding on your left backwards outside edge), then cross your right root over your left, and then step forwards on a left inside edge like in the video. Stand up and try it, if that makes any sense. Once you understand how to do it, you don't have to glide on one foot for so long, and it will look like the pivot in the video but without the stop! I wish I could find a video that shows what i'm talking about but I cant..
A hockey player approached one of the coaches at club I coach at and wanted to give him some lessons, so I joined in one day. We were working on this with him, took him a long time to get it because he couldn't turn and open his hips, but when he did he said it felt so much better as he had more speed coming out of the turn.

You don't have to stop like he did in the video, you can take the corner like a tight forward turn and just 'spin' backwards.
Try doing what you described and have 3 quick steps to build up speed going backwards; it's going to be slower because in the way I've described your feet begin in position to start the cross-overs for speed. On top of that, the actual turn where you're facing forward before you pivot is much quicker and more stable in the tradition method.
