The key to all of this will be the evidence the US presents. If it's a boat load of incriminating evidence, or whether it's full of holes. As much experience as the Quds Force has (and how seemingly professional they are supposed to be, according to those who have interacted with them, making this incident seem highly unlikely to have been orchestrated by them), the US has even more experience. If, as skeptics believe, it seems too amateurish to have been done by QF, it also seems too amateurish to have been set-up by the US.
