I've been interested in those for a while, however, I was informed by some more serious geeks that they won't work if both plugs are not on the same circuit. You can put one upstairs and then the other downstairs near your router, it won't cross through the electrical panel (basement plugs -> kitchen plugs)

In my case, yeah, I want to be able to take it across the house.

Any truth to this, does it make sense?

Have a look at the first review on Dell's site; they do address it.

From what they say is it will work, as long as both circuits are on the same phase; or same side of the electrical panel.

I have a powerline adaptor in my basement office. It works well with the other end plugged into any outlet on the 3rd level of my house.
