I have a hard time finding Grape Crush anymore. The grocery stores carry Orange, Cherry and Cream Soda Crush but I can't ever find Grape Crush. My local convenience store carries it in the small bottles and you can still get the cans if you buy one of those mixed flats that they have at Costco so it isn't totally gone. Very odd.

Speaking of retro drinks look what I stumbled across today, though this is more parody than retro. Get hammered and sickled today! LOL Product description below.
You want a retro drink that'll remind you of the 80s? Then Leninade is the drink for you! A refreshing carbonated citrus drink with an appeal to the masses. the taste that would make Lenin, Marx, and Engels proud is sure to be a hit with anyone who likes to Party. Socialists and communists rejoice! The proletariat are back with a new agenda: "Drink a bottle a day and become a Hero of Socialist Flavour!" Drink comrade! Drink! It's this or the gulag! Just say DA!

Sobey's still carries it. At least the one in McKenzie Towne is the one where I always buy it.
If this isn't your end of town I can double check before you make a trip.

As for the taste- I would say it doesn't taste as "sticky"; if that makes any sense. I'm a Coke drinker, but I have switched to Pepsi Throwback.
And if you go to the States, they also have Throwback Mountain Dew.
I emailed Coke a couple of weeks ago; they make a Coke product with real sugar for Passover in Jewish markets. I was asking if they considered following Pepsi's lead in making this available everywhere all the time. No reply of course.
|
I understand the "sticky" description. Pepsi Retro is more like water when drinking it as it isn't a syrup compared to normal Pepsi.
I how ever, can only drink Pepsi Lime anymore. Normal pepsi/Retro just seem bland, where as Pepsi Lime is like cocaine.

I was hoping Pepsi Throwback would stay around. I was never a Pepsi fan but I was actually preferring this to Coke as it wasn't as sweet and had a far nicer taste to it. And maybe the biggest thing, all the ingredients in it were completely repeatable. It was more "pure" then all this synthetic sugar stuff.
Now, if they brought back Lime Crush, I would be set.

Pepsi throwback is a lot better than regular Pepsi/Coke.
I have discovered that at most 7-11s you can get Vanilla Coke in big gulp form which makes me happy.
And you can get Lime Crush at pretty much any Macs store

I'm a Pepsi guy, and I really wanted to like the Pepsi lime, but I just can't get over how artificial the lime part tastes. Then I thought...why not just add some real lime to normal Pepsi and achieve the same/better thing?
Thanks to this thread I'm going to keep my eye out for this Pepsi throwback stuff.

I would like to present to you, the Master Sommelier Diploma Examination:
Quote:
Part 3. Practical Tasting
The tasting examination is scored on the candidate's verbal abilities to clearly and accurately describe six different wines. Within twenty-five minutes he or she must: - Identify, where appropriate, grape varieties, country of origin, district and appellation of origin, and vintages of the wines tasted.
|
So while not everybody can tell cat piss from vintage wine, it's certainly possible. And not just in the sense that you can tell two wines apart, it's possible to get to know them to the point where you recognize all those things mentioned above just by taste.
Also, evidence seems to suggest that tasting aspartame as bitter might be a genetic feature, and thus not a matter of "learning to like it".
I really don't need to know there's aspartame in a drink to hate it. It's just disgusting to me.
