I said just for the atmosphere pre-game and throughout. Korea may have been corrupt but you can't blame that on the fan support.

I think 94 was the last great World Cup, maybe 98 as well. International soccer is unwatchable now, miles behind league soccer.

I'm biased but the 2006 WC was actually still quite good. Some great games in that tourney, with Germany-Italy, Germany-Argentina, Argentina-Mexico, Italy-France standing out.

The 2010 WC was terrible, I actually cannot remember any classic games in that tournament.

I hate that game.
Italy should be used to fixed games.

The only really memorable game that I can recall was the US's late goal in the group stage to earn them a birth to the knockout stage. They were playing against Algeria or something IIRC.

^^^ Oh come on guys, there were some great moments from last year's WC.

Ghana getting penalty in final minute of extra time against Uruguay, only to miss, then lose on penalties sticks out

Brazil-Netherlands was a fantastic match....an all time classic

England-Germany with the ball across the line was definitely memorable. For the right reasons or wrong reasons, it's still memorable

the opening game had a great atmopshere when South Africa tied Mexico. The opening goal of the tourney by Shabalala(or however you spell it) is a memory that every South African will remember for a lifetime

USA vs Slovenia-When the Americans were denied a goal late for some unseen foul in the box. That happened right after they tied it, so it was very emotional

USA vs Algeria-Donovan's injury time goal to put them thru

Germany dismantling Argentina 4-0

no, it wasn't the greatest WC, not by any stretch, but it had memorable games, memorable moments and the annoying buzz of the vuvuzela!

In 2006 italy-germany and italy-france were both duds.
It was great for you because of the result and Italy really went for it in extra time against Germany. But as a neutral, they were nothing extraordinary.

I think the last truly great World Cup match was Brazil-Holland in the Cotton Bowl in 94.

Also in recent world cups, group play has been awful. Perhaps this was because of the expansion to 32 teams. Back in 86 to 94 the group matches were alot of fun with plenty of goals.

That's crazy talk. Crazy. Calling the 06 semi a dud is beyond ridiculous.

Yep, I'm with Cecil here. As a neutral(I hate both nations), I thought that was a great match. Say what you what you will about club soccer and it's entertaining product(some, not all), it's impossible to match the emotion, the intensity and the stage of a World Cup. It's a spectacle.

Going to a World cup is on my bucket list for sure. I just wish the next three World Cup weren't in the countries they were in. I want to go to a place with less question marks. I regret not going to Germany in 06.

Emotion and intensity is different than quality of play. Germany and Italy have great history when playing each other.

vanflamesfan: would Brazil trouble you? You speak Portugese and can get around safely.

My Portuguese is very loose. I can understand it a lot more than I can speak it.

I want to give Brazil a try, but my brother and his buddies who I want to go with aren't thrilled about the idea. They're just looking at the crime as being a huge issue.

Looks like we're going to go to France for Euro 2016 though. That will be fun and we'll be close enough to Portugal to go there for a week or something like that.

Game 3, 1932 World Series. Babe Ruth's called shot. I'd love to see if that actually happened.

Game 7 Flames/Oilers 1986 would be great to see live as well. Game 6 1989 too, of course.
