Agreed.
Also, if GMs can't MSN during that day, no big deal. I'm more interested in GMs putting in MSN time the odd night or weekend instead of during the day.

MSN is more a communication tool when you have at least 30 minutes or more to be online. And as noted many companies no longer allow the use of it.
PM is great because you can login, reply back and it only takes a couple minutes.
I use both and I would say in the last year my trades have been 50% MSN, 50% PM.

I would say most of my MSN deals happen in a matter of 2-10 minutes, not 30. Some do go that long however.
I'm not opposed to making PM trades, some GMs get back right away and a deal can still be done in an afternoon.
I have issues with PMs not being returned for 24-48 at a time and deals taking 3-10 days, and sometimes PMs never being returned.

I'm relatively horrible with PMs. I do try my best, but frankly I'm willing to admit that I'm bad at this. I know that its frustrating to deal with me on that basis, but it just seems that I look at the PM and have the best intentions to respond and get side-tracked doing something else.

Victor, it seems like you're on MSN whenever I want to yack at you, and I've never had a problem with you returning a PM in reasonable time.

When a deal does come up on MSN it can happen quickly but that's assuming the talks begin when you log on. Often I'll be on MSN for hours before a negotiation actually starts.

Thanks - and for the record I think if GMs are going to primarily use PMs then it does fall to them to make sure they are responding in a timely fashion. We are being flexible in allowing our players to use that tool instead of MSN - so in turn it is only fair that our GMs hold up their end of the bargain by checking and replying to PMs daily.
As a player of this game you need to be checking the forum daily anyways for announcement/news/etc. During summer that can be challenging but if you aren't going to be checking in at least once every 48 hours you need to post that you are away.
I think that is all reasonable.

I guess it was time for one of these threads again, just sticky one of these so my new AGM doesn't start a new thread and complain about the lack of activity in couple of months. Thanks

Good discussion. I lost my MSN access at the new job but I'm trying to check PM's more often (a couple fell thru the cracks earlier this year) and be prompt with replys. My last couple deals have been pretty painless via PM.

I certainly prefer msn but pm works as well. The only quam i have with pm is when messages go unanswered or the response is either very delayed or doesn't really help the trade talks. If you're going to take 2 days to answer a pm your answer better be constructive. I hate when I get an already delayed pm response that says give me a couple days to look into it.
Basically, I don't really care when tool is used just as long as every gm is reachable and commited to the conversation.

If 7-10 days is needed to complete a transaction through PM, then I suggest haggling less and offering more. I quality offer doesn't need much back and forth to be completed

I'd tend to agree with that (but I hate low ball offers in the first place...waste of everyone's time IMO). Sometimes though the offer is fair but it's not the right type of offer for a gm. Trying to flush out what the 'right' deal is really sucks when responses are 24 hours or more apart.

There is alot of interesting views. I may not be one of the active MSN users however depending on the time of the season I will set a time to meet on MSN through PM if it is a deal that needs to be done quickly or if I have interest in a deal offered to me. I usually respond to PM's the same day and never go without responding. Another thing is that no one really knows what kind of work some GM's put into their team behind the scenes. My problem in the past is that sometimes I felt pressured to make a deal on MSN and that I would rather take a bit of time to analyse, then I get all messed up when trying to carry mutiple conversations and trying to make a deal at the same time. If the question is if a GM cares there is no question here. If you want to talk to me on MSN please make an appointment by PM.
