Great stuff by detroit!
Since I took over, I decided I was going to add pieces at UFA. Came at a big price but we snagged the two best rated pieces in UFA.
This was the plan all along and are glad both the offers we made were the chosen offers by the players.
Looking around the league, we realised the cost of acquiring a starting goalie. When we found one in the open market, we had to bite.
We also needed a top 4 Dman and a top 6 forward. After crunching some numbers, we though we would not be able to acquire a top 4 dman and a forward with the remaining 9 Million. Hence we decided to instead throw all our money at a number 1 defenceman.
We are proud to welcome new additions - Streit and Roloson.

Well we are thrilled to add two 68ov players to our forward group. We needed to bolster our forward depth, cleary and antropov should help a lot. Detroit definitely did well signing all 4 of those dmen for so cheap!

Glad that I got Johnson. Cheap backup for a few years that will play equally with nabby this year. Keeps Bernier on the farm, which'll mean my AHL team should be good.

A mistake was made.
Henrik Tallinder was won by Nashville with a 2 year, 1 way deal for 2.2.
The mistake was mine, not Doug's.

My biggest question was who is going to play defense. What a pleasant surprise! I wasn't expecting to really get one player let alone three. I split my money evenly between the four defenders more less throwing up a hail Mary. I had no significant money left to spend so I figured I had no chance. But Doug is right, why didn't I offer up more years.
The ironic thing is i originally had Streit and Morris down but changed them to Gonchar and Hamrlik at the last minute.

Wow, Tallinder takes a 3.8M cut to remain a Predator. Great job in having the stones to not buckle with the grid deal and resign him in the open market

Brian Boucher was not on your list of UFAs in your batch 1 thread Grant. Should we be going with your list or Doug's?

Go by Grants
I added it after I got the signings from grant, so he was never on my list till today. I thought I had missed him
Hawks almost got away with a fast one, good catch

Quite a few cheap deals overall, which is making those grid deals from years past look awful. Round two will be interesting though...might see some increased offers if gms think that they are still getting a deal.

Some people are asking why the Jackets are over cap now and if they went over the cap to sign a player.
So here's the scoop. The Jackets were under cap. They have now called up a player from the minors, after the signing of Allen, so that they can then waive Allen.
So everything is hunky dorey.

Teams should worry about themselves rather than the Blue Jackets. Only a top notch, first class organization being run here.

Well..the gamble didn't payoff with letting McDonald test the UFA market. Andy comes out a big winner with the Sharks going 0.75MM over the grid price of 8.5M. We were willing to pay the money but not the 3yr term and 1 way contract. Should have went after Connolly. Now we have a huge hole to fill with less talent now on the market available.
On the other hand we are pleased to welcome solid and seasoned back-up goalie Scott Clemmensen at a decent salary of 1.4 MIL. We needed to cut our back-up G salary down after signing Lundy to the max deal.
We missed out to the Panthers on Brent Johnson based on term alone
Also missed out on Hamrlik by 0.36MM
All in all it is nice to see some UFA signings by teams for way less than grid. The Sharks knew what they wanted and were willing to pay without being tied into a longer term deal

Awesome! I'm happy to land both Foster and Johnsson here to fill out the defence for the next year.

So I only put an offer in for Dupuis, but somehow I've ended up with Whitney and Moss, both with contracts higher than my available cap.

so just curious on who you ask questions who if you think a mistake was made. I got Biron so I know my offers went through. There is a player that I offered more money on by 100,000 dollars .

Send a PM to Grant. It happens...I would imagine there are dozens of offers to sort through. He'll take a look and correct it if theres a mistake though.
