I sit next to my gf all the time.

I also sit opposite other times.

I have honestly never thought about if it was lame or not, and I doubt that if it was lame that would stop me. If it bothers you when couples sit together in a booth, then you need to find a new thing to pet peeve about.

So, in summary, who cares?

edit: I guess it is an issue if you sit on the same side as some hot chick you're trying to bone, and your wife/girlfriend is at home mending your socks or something.

I NEVER go out to eat, I think it's bush league. Have you ever noticed how much restaraunts jack the prices? I could walk across the street to the Superstore and pick up the same steak and potato for like half the price.

I think I should go make a thread about how expensive restaraunts are in relation to grocery stores...

Yes, it's lame. Unless there is a game on and you both need to sit on the same side to see the TV. My wife wants to sit like that at restaurants some times, usually if she sees other people doing it. It reminds me of a parent having to site next to their child and it's weird to try and have a conversation like that.

It's right up there with girls who sit right up against the boyfriend or husband in pick-up trucks leaving that big space between them and the passenger side door.

Maybe your girlfriend will give you an ol' fashioned if you sit on the same side. Go for it.

I realize you're joking and making a loose reference to Option84's thread about prices in liquor stores vs. grocery stores, but there are actually people who think like this.

When I go out to grab lunch I think about how much it would cost me to make the same thing at home. Some stuff I can make pretty easily and I tend not to eat at those places too often. But then there's something like shawarma. I'm never going to make shawarma at home, I'll gladly pay someone else $8 to make it for me, even if their food cost is $3.

Based on the very first post I have ascertained that one person in the couple must be left handed.

Let's be honest though, doesn't it always seem to taste better when someone else makes it for you? There have been a couple of times where I have tried to make something at home and it always seems to be missing something.

How about ordering for your wife or GF at a restaurant? I see it happen in movies all the time, but I think it seems kind of lame.

Although, it is kind if funny to do if you are at a restaurant with a guy friend. Ask him what he is going to have just before the server comes and then order for him. I did that as a joke to a guy friend of mine before and he was so mad.

Typically no, I'd like to sit across from my wife and chat. Then afterwards we can hold hands. If it's one of those tables where one side is booth and other side is crappy chair and there would be plenty of room, we would both sit on the booth side. I'm also assuming you're not sitting at a long table

Typically sit next to each other at a round table though.

It doesn't bug me if a couple wants to sit on the same side of a booth or table at a restaurant, but if they start feeding each other, now that's lame.

I like the straight across from each other, I find it facilitates conversation the best, and avoids the awkwardness of turning to talk to the girlfriend or being a bit to close to comfortably eat. Also, I think it looks like people got stood up for a double date if they are only on one side of the table.
Finally, me and my girlfriend like to people watch and sitting across from each other gives the best view of all the crazy things people do as we have both sides covered. Although, I hate when I am stuck looking at a wall in restaurant.

I don't like ordering for my girlfriend, I want my women to have some spine

It depends, we'll sit on the same side if one person will be stuck staring at the wall. Most of the time we just sit opposite. I never knew people made judgements about what side a couple sits on. Also those bashing the cozy pickup, it works well on the lady friends, no one would order a truck with a bench if it didnt.
