Chinook has the best stores but the parking is just an effing joke. Go in the back way rather then off of Mcleod.
Sundridge and Southcentre are both a lower class mall to market and chinook
|
Definitely agree with J-bo here, avoid Macleod trail to get into Chinook unless you're coming from downtown. Take Elbow, it's less congested and leads directly to the second floor of the parkade that tends to fill up less than the other lots.
I live in the south so Chinook and Southcentre are the two closest to me. Chinook is pretty nice, like everyone's said it gets really busy. Southcentre is much less busy, and the new food court is decent. Overall Southcentre seems like it's stuck halfway between the 90's and now.

Ruby Thai in the South Centre foodcourt is the best mall food I've ever had.
The Bang Bang Chicken and Spicy Shrimp with Vermicelli rocks!

Dude you have to try the food court at the farmers' market on heritage and blackfoot. The Indian place is awesome, they have a place that just sells wings (I didn't try it, but will probably go back this weekend), and a bunch of other awesome places. Ruby Thai is good for sure, though.

No soul saving required. Sold it in '89 for the Flames Cup win anyway.

Another option is to go to all of them, and then decide which you like best.
It's just like anything else, everyone likes something different.

Chinook has the best selection of stores in town. Cross-Iron is a b*tch for me to get to with all the construction going on and very far.
I don't understand the complaint about parking. Now that all the underground parking areas are open I never spend more than a minute getting a spot once I'm in the lot, tons of spaces down there and multiple levels/sides. Most people don't use the underground parking though and cruise above ground looking forever lol.
Don't enter from Macleod trail though, gets super backed up over there. Enter through the back side either by turning on 58th ave onto 5th street if from the north or the exit off glenmore trail if from the west, east, or south.

I'm a Core guy all the way, but I grew up in NW Calgary so Market was always my go to mall.

Market mall is super boring. sunridge is in skidsville, but if you want to ease the transition from edmonton to calgary it'll probably feel most like home. Southcentre isn't that great, either.
If you want a killer food court without the usual chain restaurants, the new farmers' market on heritage and blackfoot is the best in the city.

It's got Bass Pro, which is great, and their BBB has a ton of stuff and is cheaper than the ones in Calgary. And a Koryo.
Other than that it's a hell-hole.

With the new add on and underground parking, Chinook is by far the best mall in Calgary, the largest! However, best deals, Cross Iron Mills just out of the city. If you where to drive to sunridge it is only another 10 mins north on the highway. Large mall, lots of outlet stores.
Don't let "outlet" fool you... Its all brand new clothes, just cheaper then any other mall...
