Nah, this was in Michigan. The upside was the league was fine with drinking on the bench as long as we took our emptys with us after the game

NCHL - Could only get 4 teams that were competitive in the top division. Didn't like the 5 penalty = penalty shot rule. Poor ice times. We'd go out to Chestermere for a 11pm game and there would be noone on the ice since 8pm.
CAHL - Great competition in the top division. Ice times were terrible. Every game was Monday or Wednesday night at 10:45 or 11:15 at the Edge in Springbank. The league was also very poorly managed.
All-Cal - Trying out this league for the upcoming winter season. Looks like they have some decent ice times, and some good competition. Anyone play in this league and have an opinion?
My biggest concern entering a new league (like WHHL) would be ice times and competition. It's important to group teams that are all on the same level so the games are close

All Cal years ago was not too bad, competitive.
Were you guys the Brewstars in the CAHL?

Allcal is decent, I played in it last year. I think we were div 3? I'd say div 3 was comparable to NCHL B.
The guy that runs the league also runs a bunch of other leagues around town, so his icetimes are ok. Mostly 10pm and the odd weekend morning. It's a better league than NCHL, with WAY better refs.

What are everyone's thoughts on the CMHA? Is it a well-run league?

i have played in this league for 10 yrs now and i think it is great.
- 1.5 hr ice slots
- 28 games
- most ice times are between 7 and 10 - worst ice slot is on sunday night at 10.15 at ernie starr
- organized
- there has only been a couple of times where we did not have a time keeper
- for the most part the reffing is steady and consistent
- most of the guys in the league play hard and aren't jerks - but boys will be boys and stuff happens
I have not played in any otehr league, but it is my understanding that this league ranks second to the heritage. if you can get a team in the league or get aligned with a team, do it.

Were looking for a change. HNA is run so poorly that its time to jump ship. Looking forward to the new year in a new league. It might be difficult the first year due to a lack of teams but that's ok as this sounds like it'll be awesome in a couple of years with the much better ice times and some corporate sponsors might be nice as well. Plus I believe NSD is building two more rinks at South Fish Creek that they will own. Woot

we're leaving the NCHL again because of the reffing, it is brutal. We left the NCHL last year to switch to All-Cal which was a HUGE step up in competition and reffing ability, but we switched back just for the NCHL summer league because they got the contract at COP for all of their games. This summer's been great for ice time in the NCHL, but not worth it overall.
I do recommend All-Cal, their winter ice times are better, but still the occasional crappy ice time at the corral

Where do you get that NSD is building the rinks? The South Fish Creek Recreation Association has been fundraising forever to build the additional two rinks at... wait for it... The South Fish Creek Recreation Centre. The construction company building the rinks is Chandos.

Ummm... I play in the NCHL and I can say without a doubt that the NCHL summer league does not play exclusively at Canada Olympic Park.

How is that going to work with this new COP league as well? That's a lot of teams for 3 sheets of ice + the international ice when it opens up.

HNA really needs a North / South alignment.
I would consider switching to the WHHL if they implemented that and they have a good 1st year and a certain someone isn't reffing.

I heard he is involved in the Winsport league. I have nothing to back that up though. I will never support a league that he is involved with.
