Other great lines from full metal jacket
Crazy Earl: These are great days we're living, bros. We are jolly green giants, walking the Earth with guns. These people we wasted here today are the finest human beings we will ever know. After we rotate back to the world, we're gonna miss not having anyone around that's worth shooting.
or
Gunnery Sergeant Hartman: If you ladies leave my island, if you survive recruit training, you will be a weapon. You will be a minister of death praying for war. But until that day you are pukes. You are the lowest form of life on Earth. You are not even human, fataing beings. You are nothing but unorganized grabastic pieces of amphibian shinguard. Because I am hard you will not like me. But the more you hate me the more you will learn. I am hard but I am fair. There is no racial bigotry here. I do not look down on ********s, kikes, wops or greasers. Here you are all equally worthless. And my orders are to weed out all non-hackers who do not pack the gear to serve in my beloved Corps. Do you maggots understand that?
or
Private Joker: I wanted to see exotic Vietnam... the crown jewel of Southeast Asia. I wanted to meet interesting and stimulating people of an ancient culture... and kill them. I wanted to be the first kid on my block to get a confirmed kill!
The ultimate character was animal mother as played by Adam (not one of the) Baldwins
some of his lines
T.H.E. Rock: You're going home now.
Crazy Earl: Semper fi.
Donlon: We're mean marines, sir.
Private Eightball: Go easy, bros.
Animal Mother: Better you than me.
or
Private Joker: Is that you, John Wayne? Is this me?
Private Cowboy: Hey, start the cameras. This is "Vietnam - the Movie."
Private Eightball: Yeah, Joker can be John Wayne. I'll be a horse.
Donlon: T.H.E. Rock can be a rock.
T.H.E. Rock: I'll be Ann-Margret.
Doc Jay: Animal Mother can be a rabid buffalo.
Crazy Earl: I'll be General Custer.
Private Rafterman: Well, who'll be the Indians?
Animal Mother: Hey, we'll let the ####s play the Indians.
or
Animal Mother: Well, if you ask me, uh, we're shooting the wrong ####s.
or
Animal Mother: What do I think about the U.S. involvement in the war? We should win it.

So many good ones to choose from, but I'm going to have to go with the Sega hockey scene in Swingers.
"What, you can't fight in this version?"
"No, they took the fighting out because of kids or something. But you can make someone's head bleed."
"Make Wayne Gretzky's head bleed."

Re: R. Lee Emery in Full Metal Jacket
I actually just watched that movie last night on Bravo. In the intro to the movie the host told an anecdotal story about the drill instructor character. The movie itself was based on two books recounting real events, with the drill instructor based on an actual guy.
I was only half-listening to the story, however I remember that the drill instructor's lines were never scripted and Kubrick either (a) brought in the real guy who told Emery what to say, or (b) just let Emery ad lib the scenes with the filthiest stuff he could think of.
Anyone else watch it who can clarify?

R. Lee Emery was an 11 year Marine, he rose to the rank of Staff Seargent. He was hired on as a technical advisor for Apocalypse Now, but was so good that they hired him into the role.
He wrote most of his own lines on full metal jacket because he actually did act as a DI on the Island.
He admitted that there wasn't very much exageration to the role, but that the Marine training regime has changed a great deal.

Plenty of good ones tho choose from.
A few stick out in my mind.
the first time I saw the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. I was about 12 and I was absolutely amazed.
The car chase scenes from the second Matrix was kick ass! One of the best car chases EVER!

Ya, thanks Cap'n.
I just looked and found a link confirming that.
"Lee Ermy a former Parris Island drill instructor originally hired as technical advisor was given the part of Sgt. Hartman after Kubrick observed the way he handled actors during casting session improvisations. Most of the outrageous insults he hurls at recruits were Ermy's own creations"

Here's a few of mine that haven't been brought up yet...
* The big gun battle in the street in "Heat". Also great was the coffee shop scene between Pacino and De Niro
* Horse head in the bed in "The Godfather"
* The sinking of the "Titanic". Also the mother reading a last story to her children before they drown.
* Mirror scene in "Taxi Driver"
* Goose's death in "Top Gun"
* You can't handle the truth!! in "A Few Good Men"
* Reveal of 'Kobayashi Porcelain' on the bottom of the shattered cup - "The Usual Suspects"
* Vincent's forceful adrenalin shot brings Mia back to life in "Pulp Fiction"
Lots of others too...

The original Boogie Nights one is good. I also agree with Jiri on the 25th Hour.
I think Boogie Nights has a lot of good scenes. I love the scene where Marky Mark first goes to the mansion with the Eric Burton song playing in the background. Also the scene where William H. Macy kills himself. The scene where Roller Girl kicks that guy's ass.
Other movies:
The scene near the end of Big Fish where his dad is about to die and he is carrying him to the water (in his thoughts).
The part in Seven where Brad Pitt is like; "What's in the box!!???".
The scene in Vanilla Sky near the end where Tom Cruise in going up the elevator and that Sigur Ros song is playing.

Yup that movie confirmed to me that going in the Army would be my absolute personal hell when I was growing up. I had nightmares as a kid of being in the army. [/b][/quote]
Slightly off-topic but...
Some of us will remember when every house didn't have a VCR and renting some movies and the VCR was a staple of the youngster's birthday party/sleepover.
One time someone I know had Dad go down to the Video Station and pick up a 75 pound VCR and a few random movies for the kiddies to watch. It was the Birthday Party for a 10 year-old girl but Dad was new to this rental thing and didn't know much about movies so he got Full Metal Jacket.
So he plugged it in and soon enough a room full of little girls was watching that movie. I wasn't there but apparently it was a very quiet viewing and it induced a few tears. The dad had done his job and he left the room so the kids could watch their little movie and it ran for quite a while before an alert older brother figured that maybe they shouldn't be watching Gomer Pyle kill himself or hear stories about Mary Jane Rottencrotch so they got the movie stopped and brought out the Care-Bears birthday cake.

Shootout scene in Unforgiven:
Little Bill (Gene Hackman): "You coward, you just shot an unarmed man."
William Munney (Clint Eastwood): "He should've armed himself when he decided to decorate his establishment with my friend."
Paraphrased by memory.

Another is the scene in Tombstone when the Earp's are leaving on the train and one of the gang members is there to kill them. Wyatt sneaks up on him and says;
"From now on I see a red sash, I kill the man wearing it. So run you cur. And tell the other curs the law is coming. You tell 'em I'm coming! And Hell's coming with me you hear! Hell's coming with me!"
Awesome scene from an equally awesome movie.

Funny thing, but that movie came out the yearafter I graduated from high school and was looking at joining the military.
My dad took my mom to that movie a week before I went to sign up, and they made me watch that movie in the hopes that it would change my mind.
Now being the dopey teenager that I was I totally missed the meaning of the movie, and it made me more eager to joing up. I thought it looked like one big zany adventure with gym class thrown in the middle.

For me, it's Al Pacino's final rant directed towards Kevin Spacey in Glengarry Glen Ross.
