I have an agile al-3000 and a Gibson les Paul. The agile is pretty close to the Gibson in terms of playability, attention to detail the Gibson wins. Only if you are really looking.

I want to splurge and get a Jackson V for like $1300. No money though.
okay, 3Justin3, let's just lay out the advice you've given in point form....

-No need to spend $500 to get a guitar with decent sound

-Yours was only $320, but your pickups were $200

-Making it "basically a $500 guitar"

-The pickups made a huge difference

So in review, 3Justin3 has suggested that there is no need to spend $500 on a guitar. You only need to spend $320, followed by another $200.

Any other money saving techniques for beginner guitarists there, man?

Okay going with the Les Paul. I found the neck on the SG really weird. It felt akward in my hands and I found I was hitting the frets at a weird angle.

So now I'm stuck between the Les Paul Sudio and the 60s tribute.

The Studio has Humbuckers pickups while the 60s tribute has P90s. The P90s I'm told are more versatile. The Humbuckers have more of a specific yet not easily replicated sound.

Anyone with any expereince on the P90 vs. Humbucker pickups?

Some good viewing for you:

Personally, I associate the fatter rounder humbucker sound with Les Pauls, but the P90 is pretty special as far as single coils go too.
