My point was, that if a war that ever truly threatened Canada broke out on a massive scale we could have conscription too. The 4-12 months headstart their conscritps received really wouldn't be all that meaninfull. A 50 year old man have 4 months of mandatory military training and no combat when he was 18, really doesn't strike much fear in my heart.

Agreed. But the point of the discussion was that Canada has more combat experience. Canada has had about 2600 soldiers in Afganistan whereas Denmark has had about 750.

I think you all are forgetting the most important part about this.
If Denmark annexes the North Pole, they'll have a spy with diplomatic immunity that can enter any country, any state, any HOUSE in the entire world, and no police force on Earth can do anything about it.
Santa Claus, my friends, Santa Claus. Think about it.

I don't have the statistics in front of me, but Canada has been in Afghanistan since 2002 and probably rotated a lot more then 2600 troops through Afghanistan that are still members of the armed forces.
If there's one advantage to participating in Afghanistan is that a lot of our land forces NCO's and Officers are battle hardened and passing those messages across to the newer members.

Does anyone actually think Canada is going to go to war with Denmark?

So we set up a rink in the arctic, and have a best of 7 series vs. the Danes. Things like hooking, slashing, boarding and cross-checking will not be called as penalties. Fighting will also only be a 2 minute minor, and no BS instigator calls. Winner takes the North Pole!!

Then a dvd set will be made, and for decades they will talk and watch the great war on ice.

Yeah, and who has the higher GDP, not per capita?

The real question is, if we have Wolverine on our team, why haven't we annexed Alaska and Greenland yet?

There are a couple other bona fide contenders - Russia/Norway would have to be the other semi-final...

Didn't Russia put a flag a somewhere on the ocean floor at the North Pole a year or two ago?
Not saying that gives them a legitimate claim, just wondering about all the various claims out there.
In that vein, what is Canada's claim?

We don't need a claim. It belongs to us out of sheer awesomeness.

Our claim is whatever the international standard is for territory based on our coastline and borders.
The issue in contention is these countries are fighting for a piece of the continental shelf to extend their claims which is actually shared by all of us which is what makes this all stupid.
