maybe you should pay him back the money you borrowed

I have Pavel Bures rookie card. I thought it was going to be worth something, but turns out its worth like 10 cents.
They over produced them in the 90s (and I assume now, although I don't keep track anymore).

Haha, I've got this one and I have always assumed it's worth something since he's wearing roller skates! Guess it's only worth like $3.00.

This is probably my most valuable hockey card of the ones I own. A 1972 O-Pee-Chee Team Canada Phil Esposito.

This is not his rookie card. Upper Deck has a card of Pavel in his white CCCP jersey with a WJC medal the year before. It is in their Young Stars subset

It takes too much time to get them in their new jerseys. Normally it takes until the January releases before you see traded guys in their new jerseys. I remember back when the Thrashers first came into the league and their section was made of guys from the random teams they came from in the expansion draft.
Also, with not getting full team sets, usually the companies will release a set that has a majority of the players. OPC I believe is the set that has the best selection this year. Don't know for sure.

It's the digital age. There should be no excuse for that sort of thing that flew in the 80s and 90s and early 2000s. You can get a photo of someone in a new jersey to print in hours.

I have some 80's cards where they painted over the uniforms with the new one's on traded players, they look hilarious, like amatuer photoshop hour!
The hobby was ruined in the 90's. I wish there were nice sets worth collecting but unless you want to break the bank these days you will never have anything of value. It's all chase cards and you might as well just buy a few of the guys you like rather than try and pull them from a pack.
It's sad, it was a lot more fun when you would scrounge a buck together, go buy 4 packs at the 7-11 and hope for that last card you needed for your set while enjoying some tasty gum sticks!
It might be nice to have a crosby card with a jeresy patch on it graded BGS10, but my Yzerman rookie is a way nicer card. Can't believe I didn't collect the next year, or I'd have a Lemieux RC

Haha ya I have about 90% of that set (89-90 I believe?), with some pretty nice rooks that year (Fedorov, Bure, Jagr..) but its Pro Set and the 90's so they were ridiculously mass produced and worth nothing. Such a tease.
I have no idea how accurate this is, but I heard a couple years back that the McDonald's cards are weirdly enough the most valuable (maybe because, as mentioned in this thread already, they weren't released in the States). I'll have to look into that, still have a couple McDicks packs from the '91 Canada Cup.

UpperDeck is famous for using older pictures and such. They do it to save money as they have to pay for every picture that they use. So if they have already payed for pictures of the team when they were in Atlanta, they don't want to pay extra and have pictures of that team now that its Winnipeg, and since the cards are designed basically almost a year in advance there is a lot of players showing old jerseys, especially guys that were traded. They do the same with their jersey cards, I have cards of Tanguay as a flame the the jersey piece in the card is from an old Avalanche jersey. They paid for the game worn jersey, they gotta use it all up...
Below is probably my card thats worth the most due to its rarity...only 10 made...

I have an uncut sheet of OPC that has John Kordic and Sheldon Kennedy. My mom hung it on my wall with push pins though. I have a lot of 90s pro set cards that are in French so they are worth a little more but still pretty much worthless.

A sample of some of my older cards. There's a few WHA ones in the mix including some from the Calgary Cowboys.

3 weeks ago while helping my father move, I came across a box of 4000 cards I had as a kid. Most were late 80's early 90's cards that aren't worth much.
I have at least 6 rookie cards each of Federvov, Bure, Belfour, Jagr, Lindros, Sundin, and various other players who started around then and was excited to see if I had a small fortune.
I did a search on Ebay for each card, and found that most cards that I thought might be worth anything were only $1 each.
Guy Lafleur's rookie card, which I thought was the tip of the iceberg, would only fetch around $100-$200 if that.
Ebay, as mentioned earlier, is definitely the way to see what your stuff is worth
