Canadian Tire Gas Bar. I then hoard the Canadian Tire money until I need to buy something big from Canadian Tire. Just bought a drill this weekend and due to the usage of Canadian Tire money, the drill was essentially 80% off.

I always try to hit either the Safeway for my 5.0 cents/l discount or Shell for some air miles. I absolutely avoid Centex, since I've know 3 or 4 people who have had their cards skimmed from their.

I love these guys

Ethanol is not gasoline, and I don't like it.

Usually Esso or Shell, tends to be whichever is cheaper.

Usually Esso gives 1.5c/L off (in Calgary) while Shell has nothing.

In Ottawa, Esso or Shell, whichever is more convenient (not out of the way, close to home, etc...)

Costco. When I first started going last summer, I was getting gas as much as 9 cents cheaper than anywhere else. Unfortunately, for the past little while it has almost been on par with everywhere else in the city.

Since it is on the other side of Red Deer I only go there if I can save at least 4 cents per litre. Otherwise it is just the first station I happen to come across.

Another little known secret about CT gas bars..... cheapest smokes anywhere. Quit 2 months ago, but up until then, it was the only place I bought them. Always a buck a pack cheaper than anywhere else.

It's a Placebo unless you have a car that can modify timing on the fly or has some super powered knock sensors.

i am committed to saving money on fuel where i can.

so it is an atb cash back mastercard when i buy at esso (1.5 cents off and esso points (great for cheap touchless car washes)), or costco with a cashback costco amex card.

hmmm...i read that and it seems more complex than it is; everything is setup and linked so that all i have to do is basically pay and pump...

since i am using the supreme the price difference between costco and esso is significant.

anyone know where costco is getting their gas from?

Less than $10 for a 20 pack of export a gold. Compared to $11.50 at macs. But now I spend nothin on smokes yay!

And now that fuel is so expensive and I may start going to coop or something. I went to costco today but it wasnt as cheap as I was hoping.

There's no difference in gas, there are only a few refineries that provide all the gas sold in Alberta. Husky/Mohawk advertise their ethanol blend, which does lower your fuel mileage, but if you need a higher octane you can get it cheaper, so it probably averages out.

Ethanol has a lower specific energy content than conventional gasoline, so it takes more units of ethanol to create the same amount of power, so its worse on mileage, but provides a better octane rating, so its better (or at least cheaper) for those with forced induction / high compression motors who need it.

There is no difference in mileage between your Shell/Sunco/etc, other than if they have ethanol in the gas.

So those additives they add have no special power? What are in those additives anyways?

Company car and phh card so whatever happens to be closest when I need it most. I do try to use Esso as I like to focus on one set of points (aeroplan).

Thank you! I cannot stand it when people say they only fill up at petrocan because they get an extra 50km a tank of mileage. Its all coming from the same place people!

I used to use Petro Canada because they were convenient and near my home, gave a 3.5 cents/litre discount (as they all did), and you'd accumulate a few petro points. They took away the discount and then I realized how long it took me to accumulate enough points for a windshield wiper or a car wash, and I am trying to break the habit and use my other loyalty programs.

First choice for me is whatever is convenient, and if I have a loyalty card of some kind, I'll try and use that so I get at least a little bit of return. I get some kind of perk at pretty much all of the gas stations (except the likes of Centex or Fas Gas), so I'll just whip out whatever card they accept and be done with it. Even Husky gives out AMA discount points, and there happens to be one fairly close to me as well.

No not really. The effects would be miniscule, like im talking less than a percent change.

I know shell advertises nitrogen or something in their gas... Its all a marketing scheme.

I remember a friend i had in high school who swore he got better fuel mileage from 89 octane over 87.... i tried explaining octane levels, compression, and ignition timing but he just didnt believe me...

Usually Co-op for me. They are like the only gas station left it seems that actually has great full service guys that are always outside waiting as opposed to other places that let you sit out there for 2-3 minutes.

The $80 -$100 cheque they send at the end of the year is nice too.

I hate full service... i prefer self service i dunno why... i dont like people around my vehicles, ive seen too many oil change monkeys and whatnot who could care less about cars.

Combustion Catalysts, Oxygenators, Antioxidants, Antiknock agents, Detergents, etc.

They don't add power per se, but they do allow your engine to run cleaner and more efficient, with less deposits (gunk). Over the long run, your engine runs better and lasts longer, with perhaps a small amount of performance gain due to a lack of crud inside.

I doubt it's just a marketing scheme. There may not be any appreciable mileage gains, but a clean engine is a happier engine. Perhaps purple mustangs don't care as much about the fuel they drink?

Your "clean engine" would be better helped with regular oil changes and other preventative maintenance, the idea of "cleaner" gas is snake oil. My favorite is when they show pictures of valves using "v power" and non "v power" gasoline...
