No, everyone knows the city where I live has by far the worst pot holes, probalby becasue in the city I live, if you don't like the weather you just have to wait 5 minutes and it will change.
In unrelated news, the place I last took a vacation has the hottest chicks, and the majority of music now is way worse than it was at some point in the past.

Anyone know why the road is buckling like that? Did a water main break or something? Or just ####ty design? I remember it was not too bad last year but this is just stupid, you have to slow down to 80 just to make it over the stupid things safe...
I saw someone the other day fly past me south bound going probably 140-150, they hit the bumps (were in an SUV) and the back end came flying out and the person ALMOST lost control... You can definitely get some air on that thing.

I really like those bumpy reflective road markers they have on the west coast. Makes driving at night or in the rain *much* easier, and provides a poor-mans rumble strip at points.

Wouldn't those be a problem here when they are trying to clear snow from the streets, what with them protruding and all?

How about the rollercoaster ride as you pass under Glenmore along Heritage Drive right by RCGA and Burnco. 50k zone, and if you are going 1/2 that you still risk hitting your head on the ceiling. This area is by far the worst.

Yeah there's about 3 different spots where there are "slow orders" in the area between Dalhousie and Brentwood Stations, mostly closer to Dalhousie. A slow order is where trains are required to reduce their speed considerably, usually to between 20-40 km/hr over a stretch of track that is damaged or misaligned somehow. The ones in the NW are due to frost heave, and there's a bunch of others in the city. There's a nasty one on the south line where the train almost comes to a full stop near 39th Avenue Station. Many are due to frost heave, but some are due to deficiencies in the power system or other issues.
There was actually a list posted in the transit thread by an LRT operator, which I'll quote below:
Quote:

1. Area of Haysboro Interlocking, both directions, both tracks: 40 km/h
2. Inbound on the Outbound in the area of Southland: 20 km/h
3. Inbound on Henry Kruger Bridge (when leaving Bridgeland): 30 km/h
4. Inbound at Deerfoot crossing: 40 km/h
5. Inbound in the area of Southland: 40 km/h
6. Inbound area of 58th Ave: 40 km/h (this one has been around over a year already)
7. Inbound area of 50th Ave: 40 km/h
8. Restricted Speed coming into Whitehorn Outbound. Restricted Speed is open to interpretation of the operator. Anywhere from 1 to 60 km/h in this stretch of track.
9. Outbound area of Signal C100 (underneath Shaganappi Tr): 40 km/h
10. Inbound area of Signal C117 (underneath 53rd St): 30 km/h
11. Inbound area of Dalhousie (when you leave the platform to just past the switches): 40 km/h
- Any crossing gates that are stuck up or broken or struck down: 20 km/h (RULE 405).
-There is a dip in the tracks outbound as you arrive at Sunnyside station when the train is at the 2nd car marker or just past the shelter on the platform. Noticeable on every stop on every type of train CT has in service. So far no repair and no slow order.
- Other problems have been reported at: Fish Creek outbound going over the switches and Anderson outbound going over the switches. So far no slow orders there, but they are coming.
|
So yeah, suffice it to say that it's not just the roads that are suffering. Freight rail operators with CN and CP must be having a hell of a time too.

For anyone that wants to try some of the best jumps in the city. Take Anderson road. Start at elbow drive, heading eastbown down anderson and stay in the far right lane, and just giv'er. You'll thank me later.

Driving through the Regina area yesterday was hell on my car. I couldn't believe how bad it had gotten. Calgary has it pretty good so far this year in comparison.
My favorite bumps just outside Regina are the ones that warn you ahead of time with a tiny red triangle. The scrape marks on the bump itself are more warning than that little thing!

Yeah Crowchild is insane right now. If you're headed eastbound and in the middle or left lanes around Shaganappi it's literally like there are speedbumps in the middle of road.

The roads here are in fantastic shape. Because I'm bored, I checked volumes: our busiest road has about the same amount of traffic as Deerfoot between Mckenzie and 22X, or Crowchild between Stoney and Nose Hill. Whoop-Up Dr is flawless, and the comparable sections of Deerfoot and Crowchild are... garbage.
The one and only department in which Lethbridge is not a complete and utter failure.

Aren't potholes the result of salt/sanding city roads all winter? Salt ruins roads.

As far as I know, they don't put salt on the roads here. Only sand.

3% Salt, 97% sand.

No need to worry about pot holes today, though! They're all filled up with snow.

No, it's due to the environment. Salt doesn't affect asphalt as much as it does concrete, but it's still over a long period of time.
All it takes is a small crack, which starts opening up due to pressure from freezing water. Then tires hit that edge of the crack and start to break it apart bit by bit until it's wide and deep.
