Truly silly to expect more. Humans may very well be an advanced thinking primate, but in the end, they are still a corporal animal.
That could be but but you don't have any proof, just as the religious don't have any proof.

Myself, I know that there is more to me than my body and brain, that this part will live on, I don't know.

Death is a biological certainty. There's no hocus-pocus surrounding it.

Death of the body is a biological certainty but there is more too us than this body. All you have to do is look at a dead body, the energy that kept it alive is now gone.

Look dude, I'm still trying to get past the image of fat chicks in spandex and you throw this at me. No wonder I'm tempted to fall off of the wagon in a big way.

My proof that there's no such thing as ghosts or spirits or a soul. If it was true and we died and left our bodies, wouldn't woman's locker rooms be so packed with ectoplasm that the woman trying to take showers with each other would drown?

I'd like to see your proof that there is more than just electrical and chemical signals.

In order to do that you have to know what I know.

"Maybe when other people die, they cease to be, or go to hell or limbo or whatever, but not me baby. I'm too unique and important. How could someone as awesome and important as me simply cease to be?

I don't know what I believe, but the idea that God (who looks just like me by the way), wouldn't have some kind of ultra-long term plan for super awesome me is preposterous. I am too special to believe any of that nonsense."

People don't like to hear that this life is all they get. If they aren't enjoying their current existence, it can be a real downer.

It's far easier to believe the evil are ultimately punished, and we all get to go on to eternal bliss if we play by the rules.

Bad news - not a shred of evidence for that.

Lesson? Live your life to the max now. You aren't getting any OT.

Are you so awesome that you're quoting yourself or is that a quote from someone I don't recognize?!?!?

There was no afterlife. You just died - ashes to ashes, dust to dust. Eternal punishment does not exist in the Hebrew Bible. It's probably a Christian construction to counterpoint the fact that for eternal life to mean something there must be an opposite, eternal death which people need to fear and therefore conform.

I'd like to see what Textcritic knows about that point.
Since this for sure is not the place for an in depth religious discussion I will only indicate that the Bible covers this very clearly - whether people believe it or not is up to them - also Heaven and Hell is mentioned in the Old Testament.

FYI the Old Testament is in some form or another ver batem in for Jews, Christians, and Muslims.

Lucifer: Other angels have made this war because they hate you, you and all humans. God has put you in his grace and pushed them aside. They're desperate. They've never been able to conquer the other loyal angels, and so this war has remained in stalemate for thousands of years. And while this state of affairs endures no soul can meet its god. Your parents, and their parents, and so on from the beginning lie still in wormy earth. Of course, some of them do come to me eventually, for while heaven may be closed I am always open, even on Christmas.

Lucifer: You know what Hell really is Thomas? It's not lakes of burning oil or chains of ice. It's being removed from God's sight. It's hard to believe... so hard.

People are fairly anonymous on an internet message board. I would bet that in an anonymous setting like this it would be a much better tell of the % of people that don't believe. No pressure from family, freinds, no chance of being outed, and all that jazz.

Or do you really just believe that some how in the province that is considered the Christian right by the remainder of the country that for some reason only the atheists cheer for the Flames?

I'm fully self-supporting, have absolutely zero reliance on my parents, interacting with them provides me no benefits, but I strongly believe there is more to emotion than you think. There is a 0% chance my parents will have more children and when they pass away I will get a lot of money, but I still help my dad to live healthy and go to church with my mom on special occasions among many other things, because I want them to be happy, not because I have any interest in my gene pool. There is more to human existence than reproducing and death.

'Energy'? You mean like the cell and other biological processes stopped?

Sex with a condom doesn't help you pass on your genes either, but you still get pleasure out of it because of genetic conditioning.
