A review study says:
Quote:
Arguments for protein needs above the DRI of 0.8 g/kg body weight rely on nitrogen balance studies. Retrospective analysis of nitrogen balance data suggest protein requirements of 1.1 g/kg/d in endurance-trained athletes23 and 1.3 g/kg/d in strength-trained athletes.24 Higher needs could be explained by increased amino acid oxidation during exercise,[25] and [26] or growth and repair of muscle tissue.27 Opponents to this concept point out that the results of nitrogen balance studies at high protein intakes give physiologically non-plausible results. For instance, protein intakes of 2.5–2.8 g/kg/d in body-builders lead to a positive nitrogen balance of 8–20 g N/d.[28] and [29] Knowing that protein contains 16% of nitrogen, this corresponds to retention of 50–125 g/d protein or 200–500 g/d FFM, which is physiologically impossible. Furthermore, they argue that exercise may stimulate the reutilization of amino acids from proteolysis and actually lower protein requirements.30 Other methods for determining protein requirements, as stable isotopic tracers and functional indicators of protein adequacy have also been the source of a great deal of controversy over the years.23 Although there is no clear consensus on protein requirements of athletes, this debate on protein requirement is moot as athletes have higher intakes than the increased estimates proposed.23

Like I mentioned, it's thought that advanced resistance trainers need 1.6 - 1.8 g / kg of body weight (this is kg, not lbs, so 2.0 g / lb would be 4.4 g / kg which is absolutely ######ed). That would mean that most people who resistance train (the people in this thread) need substantially less than that, although there's no specific recommendations for a lot of populations (ie working out 3 days a week vs 5, etc).
I'll try to find some updated research.

No, it's ok.... we believe you.
I try to ingest 1g/lb of lean mass... so in my case it is around 190g... however, I get no where near that and am quite happy with 140-160g.

Anyone on a good fat burner? I would like a little help dropping a few pounds. I have been taking Lipo6x before cardio, but only two capsules. I haven't seen any real results from that. Hydroxycut was the same. Nothing really seems to help me. Maybe I need to up the dosage but I'm not convinced I want to do that. Thoughts? Anything new out there that I should know about?

Nothing beats eating right.
And having a proper recovery routine. I worked up to a deadlift of 455# doing nothing but eating right and drinking chocolate milk after a workout.

For the longest time I used Iso-Flex:

The Peanut Butter Chocolate tastes great with Milk or Water. It mixes really well with either, I prefer nice ice cold Skim Milk though.

I use one of these if I am mixing it with water to make sure it breaks up good:
http://www.gnc.com/product/index.jsp...lickid=prod_cs
Little ball inside actually does wonders to break up the product and help it blend, I use it for all my stuff btw. One cup should do you and last you for a long time, worthwhile investment. Very leak proof as well, unlike Pop Eyes free ones.
The main problem with Isoflex is I haven't found it on a discount site that I trust yet.. so it is expensive. But it is by far the best I have come across, I actually just tried some new stuff out with my last barrel and am very upset. Stay away from the pure chocolate, it never tastes good to me.
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/opt/whey.html
This stuff.. I tried the Chocolate, because it was cheaper than Isoflex by quite a bit with the site discount.. wont ever buy it again. BB.com has this rated as their top seller.. so dont be afraid to give a smaller jug a try. I am sure the other flavours aren't as gross.
Most Whey Protein will do the samething, just make sure you watch the amount of sugar, there is never a need to pay the top dollar unless you find a taste you really like.

Have you tried Animal Cuts?
http://www.bodybuilding.com/store/univ/cutsfree.html
Took this before my Mexico trip this year, from what I could handle it worked pretty well. Be prepared to spend three days on the toilet though while it clears you out.
I think 3 weeks is excessive, 2 would probably be more than enough... i did like 6 days.
There is a whole shwack of pills you can take out the ones you don't like. I dropped the caffeine pills after two days..

A whole chapter on rapid fat loss using unique combinations of supplements. An interesting read, if nothing else.

Fat Burner
Try Ripped Fuel 5X from TwinLab, a buddy of mine started using it this fall and he dropped like 20 lbs. He tried a bunch but most he said had nothing but caffeine in them, this one has got cayenne and a bunch of herbs in it I think. I think he got it at popeyes.
Also I like a product called Concret creatine, its a microdose form of creatine that seems to be way easier on the stomach for those that have tried creatine in the past and get that bloaty feeling from it like i do. I feel like i get a better work out and have more endurance when i use creatine but stopped taking it because it usually made me feel sick after. not with this stuff thankfully though.

I'd like to bump this thread to ask a simple question: where is the cheapest place to buy supplements?
GNC is a rip-off (I went once like 3 years ago), and I am thinking Popeyes will be equally as expensive, so I have turned to online ordering. Now I am wondering which site is the best/cheapest.
I think even with shipping that bodybuilding.com is the best (especially compared to Canadian online stores). Any help?

Costco sells quite a few supplements, as well as at least 2 or 3 brands of protein powder.
Superstore also sells protein powder, but I would bet it's garbage quality.

Only supplementation I take are multi vitamins, whey protein and fish oils... other than that, stuff like glutamine, creatine, pre-work out supplements are a waste.

Popeye's is considerably cheaper than GNC from my own experience.

If you do choose to go to Superstore just make sure you buy it from the actual Superstore and not the discriminating racists from the Superstore Liquor Store.

I recommend eating real food (fresh meat, veggies, fruit etc.). Most supplements are the lowest of the low for food quality.

Hydroxycut is a great fat burner. Although not healthy for you in long term doses it helps you get through the hardest phase of eating small portions. Take your pills 30-40 min before you plan on eating and by the time you start cooking you will only feel like a third of what you normally eat. After a few weeks you will be used to normal portions.
Going from 2 steaks, potatoes, buns and ice cream to a fraction of that made the rest of my training easy.
Many people do not like muscletech products. I find they work well for me and the Gakic, Leukic and Creakik stack is great for building once you have cut down.
