Physically punishing a child is one of these things that everyone has wildly differing opinions on. I was spanked as a child, sure. I got over it in about five minutes. I also got the living sh*t kicked out of me by the drunk version of my dad when I was a kid for things like not putting my bike away. And as Mad Men's Don Draper put it, all that did was make me fantasize about murdering my father.

Today, I have a hard time even raising my voice at my dogs, let alone ever physically punishing them in any way. I don't have kids, (which is why I used the dogs as an example) but I can assure you I would never resort to physical punishment on them if I had 'em. I've evolved beyond that, I'd like to think.
