The leader probably started out asking for "One Million dollars" until one of the deputy ministers reminded him that one million dollars really isn't that much money these days.

I think an independent Bloc run Quebec would be sheer comedy. Tragic for those still stuck there, but gratifying for the rest of us.

I have never voted anything but Liberal in the federal elections but if Harper did that i would vote for him.

Quebec. hahaha it would be hilarious if they separated. Taxes would be at 60% and Celine Dion would make up 35% of their GDP..

Dbag Duceppe makes it official in a speech to his membership today.

Quote:
“I am now challenging Stephen Harper to respond to Quebec’s expectations,” Duceppe said in a speech Sunday closing a party general council meeting attended by 700 Bloc members. “We are asking for simple fairness, elementary justice.”

And Duceppe said if Harper does not respond to Quebec’s expectations, Quebecers will understand he has written the province off.

“Quebecers will remember in the next election,” Duceppe said. “Mr. Harper has a choice. He can respond to Quebec’s expectations or he can spark elections.
“On our side, we will not fold. We are going to stand up for Quebec. My dear friends, prepare yourselves for a rough battle.”
It's damn near treason if you ask me. Certainly nothing short of a breach of faith if they want to be part of the soverignity.

Just makes me so angry they get away with this crap.

Something tells me Quebecers would vote for Harper for the Bloc right now anyways.

Just another ploy by the bloc as they know that statment will tick off english Canada. They just have to sit back now and wait for the backlash from english Canada and it will rally his base and bring a few more over that are on the fence.

No wonder the province will be funding half of the new $400 million Quebec arena without federal help.

Seriously, just let Quebec go if they want it. What are they gonna do on their own? How are they gonna pay back the debts they have towards us? If they need to be more special than any other province by demanding money, how are they gonna make their own dough as their own nation?

Good luck lasting 24 hours. Stuipd Bloc.

Harper doesn't care. He's daring the other 3 parties to call an election so he can get his majority.

I've said it before but I would like to see a politician that just honestly stands up and says.

You're either in this country by Canada's terms, or you leave the country by Canada's terms.

If you want to go, go, but you have to realize

There will be no shared currency.

There will be no shared passports.

All Quebec civil servants will be immediately terminated.

All Waterways heading into Quebec will be taxed.

The Northern Natives will be given the right to vote on if they want to stay in Quebec or in Canada, if they choose to stay in Canada their land goes with them.

The federal government will remove all equipment including military from Quebec.

All Quebec armed forces members will be discharged.

All federal government contracts based with companies in Quebec will be terminated.

Your share of the national debt will be calculated and you will be responsible for paying it back.

You will be allowed to negotiate your way into NAFTA.

All transfer payments are terminated immediately

All Quebec MP's will be expelled from the government and their pensions specifically bloc pensions will not be honored.

All Quebec Hydro contracts that supply power outside of Canada will be terminated until there is time to renegotiated.

So, does it really suck so bad to be Canadians?

If Captain Crunch runs for office he's got my vote. I wish someone would call their bluff because when it came down to crunch time there is no way they'd leave.

He won't get a majority and neither would the Liberals for that matter. As long as we have the bloc splitting the votes we could be seeing minority govts for the for quite some time.

The thing is with Duceppe and the Bloc is that he knows full well that he will never get secession power from the voters of Quebec, but that really isn't his end game anyhow. He merely hides behind the guise of seperation as a BQ'er to extort money from whomever is in power at the time. Its why both Liberal and Conservative governments have caved in to them repeatedly in order to stay in office.

Just once, as CC mentions, I would lave to see a PM or any high ranking Minister stand up and clearly expose Duceppe and his gang of bandits for what they clearly are. A straight forward question and answer session during parliament. I think it would open some eyes for a lot of non-Quebec based voters and allow ral change to happen moving forward. Enough is enough with that province claiming to be so different from anything else and that's why they need more money etc.

I wonder what the latest census data is on Harper's likeliness?

I remember reading a while ago that the NDP has lost a lot of ground and people are pissed at the party. And the Liberals are too busy trying to figure out how to badger the Conservatives and not knowing how to properly run a party that i can actually see Harper getting majority.

Quebec is usually the big problem for anyone running for government because they are almost opposite on issues from the rest of Canada.

Harper was well on his way to a majority in the last election until the Arts funding came up and cost him seats in Quebec.

The problem in Canadian politics is finding that balance in issues because Quebec really has a disproportionate amount of seats.

Unless you're completely willing to sell out your power base (the West) for seats in Ontario and Quebec you're boned.
