I've heard such mixed things. Some say they're moved to tears while others claim it's barely better than a lame feelgood disney movie.

It's definitely a very enjoyable film. But it is a Disney movie for adults. Great acting though, especially from Colin Firth.

How does Nolan not get a nod for best director? Even if you didn't like Inception, the directing was very well done.

Pretty much all the white peolple are villains.

I couldn't agree more with you when it comes to him at Knicks' games- doesn't he know he's making a fool of himself? He's embarrassing to watch. I do like his movies though, especially 25th Hour. Ed Norton going off in the mirror- that scene was unforgettable.

There are two songs from the Ghosts albums that they used on The Social Network but they were reworked, so I think it still counts as original.

The 'King's Speech' felt like watching Seabiscuit. Disney fluff with Firth's impeccable acting. It's enjoyable, sure, but not the BEST MOVIE.

All I have left to see is '127 Hours' and I must say, I enjoyed 'Blue Valentine' the most (Ryan Gosling was incredible beside Williams), followed closely by 'Black Swan' and 'The Social Network'. 'Winter's Bone' was highly realistic, but failed to capture emotionally.

I hope the voters lean towards 'The Social Network' and away from 'The King's Speech' ('The Fighter' was a better zero-hero flick, emotionally anyways). The fact that Firth missed out on his brilliant performance last year ('A Single Man') shouldn't have any influence on this year's votes... but it will.

Come on Portman gets chewed on like a dog toy, that alone should give her the Oscar, and the adult film award for best new cummer.

Some Oscar stats (up to 2009 Oscars, presented on March 7, 2010):

Random interesting tidbit. Only 3 films have ever won Best Picture that weren't nominated for Best Director. (1989 - Driving Miss Daisy, 1932 - Grand Hotel, 1928 - Wings)

Only 5 times in Oscar history has there been not a single film nominated for Best Picture but not nominated for Best Director. In other words, every BP nominee was also up for Best Director. This is rare because most of the years have a different number of BD nominations compared to BP nominations, so someone is bound to be left out. 2 have occurred in the last 5 years (2005, 2008).

Only 3 films have ever swept all 5 major awards (Actor, Actress, Director, Screenplay, Picture).

1934 (7th) It Happened One Night
1975 (48th) One Flew over the ####oo's Nest
1991 (64th) The Silence of the Lambs

Most consecutive years nominated (person)

There are only eleven films that have won Best Picture without receiving a single acting nomination:

The film which received the most Oscars without winning Best Picture is Cabaret with 8 awards in 1972. Although the film was nominated for Best Picture, it lost to The Godfather.

The two films which share the record for most nominations (11) with no Oscar wins are The Turning Point (1977) and The Color Purple (1985).

Grand Hotel (1932) is the only film to win Best Picture without receiving any other nominations.

The highest number of Academy Awards won by any film is 11. Three films have achieved this:
The Coen Brothers have won 4 Academy Awards each (Directing, Best Picture, and Writing for No Country for Old Men and Fargo) and have received a total of 13 nominations (11 under their names and 2 under the pseudonym Roderick Jaynes).[2]

A Streetcar Named Desire is tied with Network (1976) for film with most acting nominations and wins with four and three, respectively. The awards it won was for Actress in a Leading Role (Leigh), Actor in a Supporting Role (Malden), Actress in a Supporting Role (Hunter), and Art Direction.[4] No other films have ever won more than 2 acting awards.

Marlon Brando and Robert De Niro are the only two actors to win Oscars portraying the same character. Brando won Best Actor as Vito Corleone in (The Godfather) (1972) and De Niro won Best Supporting Actor also as Vito Corleone in (The Godfather Part II) (1974).

George Bernard Shaw is the only person to have won both an Academy Award and a Nobel Prize

Only 10 people have an Oscar and a Grammy. They are: actors John Gielgud, Helen Hayes, Audrey Hepburn, Rita Moreno, and Whoopi Goldberg; composers Marvin Hamlisch, Richard Rodgers, and Jonathan Tunick; and directors Mel Brooks and Mike Nichols. If Trent Reznor wins for his score of The Social Network he will be the 11th.

Good run down of "who should win". Surprising that 5 out of 10 top grossing movies last year were animated films depsite it being a year where there werent' as many animated films produced...likely won't go to see 80% of the movies mentioned and don't feel that I have missed out on anything....reverse 80-20 rule I guess...

I hope Franco wins. I haven't seen his movie yet, but it will make up for the Hollywood snubbing of Pineapple Express.

This boggles my mind, I do not understand how he didn't get nominated. Snubbed again, he didn't get nominated for The Dark Knight either.

The academy often has a smug sense of arrogance against movies who do well publicly and are box office successes. Im still surprised Lord of the Rings won (it deserved to).

Seen about 85 percent of the movies nominated for the big awards. I loved Inception and am super pissed about Nolan being snubbed for a best director nod. I would have given him the director nomination before the screenplay. Although the screenplay is very good as well.

I hope Kids Are Alright doesn't win Best Picture. It's a fine movie, but I just think it's getting a lot of recognition because of its subject matter and how 21st century it is. It just didnt blow me away by any means. I would give Best pic to Inception, The Fighter, Black Swan and Social Network before Kids Are Alright

Would love to see James Franco win Best Actor but he will be in tough with Colin Firth being the HEAVY favortie. Franco just blew me away in 127 Hours. I felt his pain, I felt I was in that canyon with him. He was that good.

Portman will run away with Best Actress and deservingly so. That might be the performance of the year. Honorable mention to Michelle Williams in Blue Valentine. She was amazing in that and I love how the Academy didn't forget about this little film. She gave a very raw performance in a very real movie. Not enough buzz about this movie. It's very good.

Bale will win Supporing actor.

Melissa Leo was amazing in the Fighter and should win Supporing Actress.
