I wouldn't recommend that. Major Major fire hazard. My friend had an apartment like that a few years back and while a fire didn't start, he passed out wasted at one of his parties lost his keys and we were all locked in the house. we finally had to crawl out the bathroom window.

That's the worst way to start a hangover. Keep a spare key hidden within the area at all times and it should be fine.

It is considered a prohibited weapon so if you are going to hold on to it, I wouldn't keep it anywhere visible where a cop would see it.

And those things are a lot harder to break windows than you'd think, the plastic tipped ends make it difficult (though I guess a patio door would be easier).

I was thinking that too. However, if he just added a 2nd deadbolt that required a key on both sides, he could only lock that when he's not home. Just do whatever you do now when you're home, lock the new lock also when you leave. If there's a fire the last thing you're going to want to do is find a spare key.

You could also just use biometric deadbolts on the inside, or some other keyless entry system, like a keypad

Most telescopic batons are not prohibited weapons. The ones that are spring loaded are, but the one shown in the pictures has no spring mechanism.

The charge for "possession of a weapon dangerous to public peace" would be more likely. If it is just laying around the house, this charge wouldn't apply. This charge is all about intent and is quite subjective.

... With that said, find someone who knows how to use it and have them show you. I've stripped many of these from pukes who haven't been trained on their use while they fumble around with them to use it against me (once with OC spray all over my face (training)).

When i worked at the City I was talking to a CPS member who explained that the sound of that thing opening was 99/100 sufficient to cause any perp to have serious second thoughts. Not unlike a shotgun chambering a round.

It makes a really wicked sounding schwick sound.

My bad, thought the last pic showed a spring, looks like its just the locking mechanism....but that being said, I still wouldn't be keeping it in your car or anything like that if you got pulled over.

I have a friend who went through it and this friend says they may give recruits the option to be sprayed with the real stuff or inert. My friend may have seen every recruit pick real OC over the inert for fear of later harrassment for being a chicken.

anyways, back to the topic at hand. You either have some seedy friends or seedy neighbors. I'd be freaked to find a baton on my balcony.

I agree, I hear it makes you much more appreciative of the pain you would inflict if you used it (making your judgement in a snap situation a little more conservative) than if you went inert.

I think, if I were him, I would comment that the CBSA should make it mandatory - but then I bet their union wouldn't like that.
