I've been down here in Phoenix since Dec. 3rd. I leave here for Calgary tomorrow morning (driving). Hopefully the bad weather will have passed by the time I get back into Canada late Monday afternoon.

I feel your pain brother.
Just think, we've got a potential for 4 more months of this...this...this mother nature excrement.
Oh yes, winter is lovely here.
How was your holiday weather? I assume you were at Barcelo Maya?

Yup, at Barcelo Maya. It was 25-30 but with a great breeze which kept you cool! First time ever in Mexico and definitely going back.
Great Avy BTW, gotta love Keef!

My sister lives out there. Just got back to the N.E. Couple spots on 1A where I couldn't see anything in front. Had to stop for a bit since a car got stuck in a ditch, and it felt like I was still moving.

Strathmore declared a local state of emergency because of all the stranded drivers. My parents live there and were supposed to come into Calgary today for my dad's birthday. I'm glad they didn't.

yikes, that was bad.
Inside calgary was pretty bad, but you could still see (expect for a portion on 52nd between 130 and 114.
But once you left the city eastbound on 17th ave to go to chestermere, complete whiteout. It was crazy. Not so bad on the way back, but still brutal. Worst whiteout I've ever driven in. Can't see the front of your car and snow going sideways. Luckily, halfway through I caught up to someone and they led the way.

Taking the dogs out is brutal. Walking one direction with a hood on is fine, but eventually I have to come back. I'm ok with wind most of the year, but in the winter it just makes bad weather into miserable. Not only because it's cold as hell, but it makes the air so dry.
I'm pretty happy about buying a humidifier a few weeks ago. Wish I did it years ago. To anyone that is inexplicably tired during the winter: buy a humidifier for your bedroom. They're cheap, and once you get used to the hum, you'll be happy you got it. Not only do I sleep better, but my perennial (winter) battle against chapped lips has been won.
I bought a cheap $30 one from Crappy Tire, and I run it 24/7. If/when it breaks down, I'm going to buy one that I don't have to fill twice a day. I'll never sleep through another Calgary winter without a humidifier in my bedroom.

Haha I'm in St. Albert and was literally thinking the exact same thing tonight when I was shovelling. It's already over my head (granted I'm not a tall man) on my piles and its only early January. Might have to get out the hair dryer and some extension cords...

I picked a horrible night to drive into Futureshop because Crutchfield sent me the wrong adapter plate. Wow was the 1A brutal.

Had one instaled on my furnace and it has made a huge difference. No more nose bleed because the air is so dry. My skin doesn't dry out either.

I empathise with you. Lived in Edmonton for 2 years while attending NAIT and hated the brutal winters and all the snow. That was my clue to move after graduation.

Youse tropical vacationers just convinced me to plan a Hawaiian vacation for early 2012. I miss the *brown* Christmases of my youth in the 80s and 90s! I'm pretty sure we'll be under a meter of snow at this time next year, so I suppose getting out of town is the only possibility.

On a side note...why do those new "full cutoff" streetlight fixtures seem to shudder so much in a high wind? It's like a strobe light effect on the road, which I never remember seeing with the old cobra-head fixtures.
