How does this work? Do you win your group and then they form new groups? I've never watched match play before.

And when do we find out what time Hadwin plays tomorrow? Is that posted tonight? Threw me off a little as he played pretty late on Wednesday, then finished super early today.

Round 3 tomorrow, he's the last group. https://www.pgatour.com/leaderboard.html
If he loses tomorrow, he's out.
They got rid of all tie-breaker, so if he wins, and Kisner wins against DJ (or Hadwin halves, and Kisner halves), they play playoff holes tomorrow. If he wins and Kisner doesn't, he's through to the next round. If he ties and Kisner loses, he wins the group as well.
The next stage goes to a round of 16 knockout bracket.

Conners is also playing well again, and is in 2nd in the alternate event.

Thanks for all the info!

Looks like a couple of tough outs in group 16 if Hadwin makes it through. He's looked really good though.

True, but it's still a good scenario. With DJ out, whoever gets through this group basically takes over his #1 seed path. 1-16 are seeded, with the rest being drawn by pool.

Hadwin up by 1. Looks like he'll need to win his match for a playoff with Kisner.
He's about to be one of 2 or 3 matches left playing so should get lots of TV time the rest of the day.

Aphibarnrat, a fairly hefty Thai golfer, just said he is going to hit the gym in between rounds... really? Assumed he was kidding but Faldo said he wasnt.

I was looking at the field for the masters and noticed Mike Weir got in. So how does it work when players that are no longer anywhere near the level to compete in a tournament like this get invited due to past accomplishment?
Do they typically show up and get their assess handed to them and enjoy the experience, or do some decline?

past champions have a lifetime exemption to the masters.

For sure, but what I was asking is what do players who are no longer at all competitive for the tournament do? Do they show up, shoot a high score and enjoy the atmosphere or do they typically politely decline knowing they aren't at that level anymore?

Who wouldn't want to play at least two rounds at Augusta even if they were the worst golfer alive?

I would for sure. Sorry, I don't think I'm being clear enough in posts. I'm relatively new to golf and actually asking whether all players regardless of age or how long ago they got an exemption, still play. Or do some decline?
Maybe it seems that I'm snarkily suggesting they shouldn't, but I'm actually genuinely curious.
"Who wouldn't want to play at Augusta" is a good point, except golf is still a competitive, professional sport, and you certainly see many athletes across all sports hang em up before they start to look really bad, as they don't want to be an old guy not able to keep up.

Well some do decline, but generally most of the former champions keep playing. Age is generally why most stop, not skill level.

Arnold Palmer played his last competitive round at the Masters at age 74 as an example. He played in 50 of them.

The Masters is a little different in how they treat former champions, the tradition etc. The Masters is all about exclusivity I suppose.
Shame that Mike Weir lost his game. That was an exciting Masters and he was so clutch on the back nine.
