They're 10 points ahead of the best non-playoff team right now with 16 games left, so they should be safe.
There's only 5 points separating 2nd from 7th place in the Pacific Division right now (the Wranglers are in 6th but tied in points with Bakersfield and Abbotsford).

Seems like multiple times this year Markstrom's gone on for morning skate and expected to start then been announced day to day

…. It’s maintenance and utilizing the rules to get Wolf in. Relax.
Of course he has wear and tear; every starter does at this point.

Everyone who isn’t named Martinez or Stone.
Anyway, I hope Wolf plays. It’d be nice to watch the future instead of the past.

I'm quite certain he's out with because he's legitimately hurt.

I agree with how awesome he's been this year, but I hope he's out because we want to give the reins to Wolf for the remainder. I would feel a lot better about this team's future if I knew we've ditched that ridiculous "don't rest anyone, play til the last whistle of the final game of the season and draft 15th" mentality.

I’ll never understand the posters who narrow in on a particular player and just find every reason they can to discount them or outright trash them.
Such a corny mentality.

Apparently, goalies should only ever make league minimum. Any salary they receive above that is taken directly out of butterfly's lunch money.

He was not tested much at all in that 3rd period but I do love watching how fast he is in the net. His quickness is at another level for sure and he seems to read plays really well. Hope he gets the start on Thursday and has a good game. Also hope the flames defence play better to give him some help. I know he did not play well in his last start but neither did the flames as a whole. Would like to see them grind and battle for Wolf.

Sorry I missed these quotes from a few days ago! I couldn't find many answers to this just googling, but I think they may have changed this rule.
I asked ChatGPT:
Quote:
"No, if an NHL player is traded after the trade deadline, typically they are not eligible to play games for their new team in that season. My response is based on general knowledge of NHL rules and practices as of my last training data update in January 2022. The NHL trade deadline is a well-established rule in the league, and it's widely known that players traded after the deadline cannot play games for their new team in that season.
|
I also found this from CapFriendly which seems to confirm.
Quote:
"To clarify: players traded after the deadline are ineligible for both regular season and playoff games. A common misconception is that players traded after the deadline are ineligible for only playoff games. This applies to UFAs who sign after the deadline.

Markstrom's smarter than I thought.
Seeing the team gutted, new players in and the opponents that are rolling in, just put yourself on maintenance for a week or two. That's how you preserve your trade value for the offseason.
Put yourself back into the net when the new d-men and d-men taking bigger roles have settled in a little bit. Right now it's a tire fire. No one wants to play behind a blue line in disarray, and no goalie can thrive in that situation.
Playing superman every night has to be tiring anyways.

If Markstrom wants to be traded, why does he care what the team gets for him?

He needs be valued in order for a contender to want to give up assets for him.
