I could be wrong but I don't think that you can trade a player freshly claimed off of waivers. I think that they must remain on your nhl roster for the remainder of the season and must clear waivers in order to be moved again.

Not really.

If a team tries to trade a player they claimed off waivers in that same season, they have to offer him to any team that put in a claim on him before the trade can be completed.

For example, if the Kings claimed Zykov and then tries to trade him to the Flames so that the Flames can bypass the Oilers claim in waiver priority, it wouldn't work because the Kings have to offer him to the Oilers before Zykov can be traded to the Flames.

How exactly does this work regarding acquisition price,

I mean, what if the Kings wanted a 2nd for Zykov but the Oilers were only willing to trade a 3rd for him... but the Flames were willing to pay the 2nd for Zykov?

It doesn't mean the Kings have to offer him to the Oilers in a trade in this scenario, it means that they basically have to put him back on waiver availability to any team that also put in a claim when the Kings initially claimed him. Unless I'm understanding it wrong.

^ Otherwise couldn't they just decline any trade unless it blows them away and a team overpays? There would have to be a fail-safe in there.

Serious question....can the Oilers even afford him? After the Wideman trade I didn't think they had any space.

Does that stipulation last the whole season?

There is no acquisition price in terms of assets. The Oilers just pay the Kings whatever $ amount the Kings paid to take him off waivers. In Zykov's case, the cost to claim him off waivers is ~$41k IIRC. For the Kings to claim him they pay $41k to the Canes. Then in this scenario, the Kings must offer him to the Oilers for $41k before they can trade him to the Flames.

Yes for the same season and playoffs the player was claimed in.

Man, I was really pulling for Darling, he seemed like he was going to put it together in Carolina.

3 points in 13 games is still 3 points in 13 games.
He hasn't established himself as are regular NHLer.

I'd be Ok if the Flames take a crack at it, but I don't share the same surprise that he's on waivers.

I remember wanting Zykov back in his draft year. Seem to remember him putting up decent numbers in the Q. Plus his name is pretty awesome. Plus the whole 2013 thing.

I just want to know why the on-ice SH% is 1.85%. For him and his teammates to be shooting that, that’s horrible luck. Double it and that still doesn’t come close to a regular number. His shot metrics are very impressive (granted, he plays on the Hurricanes, but even then...).

Following the Hurricanes in the pre-season, Zykov was a popular pick to be the most impactful rookie on that team.

1.85% on ice is absurd. That is absolutely a player that needs to be claimed.

They are at a 24 man roster with Zykov. They will probably send someone down to the AHL for the cap space.
