Yup, very disappointing production- not sure what happened here. I would've said his production in the USHL at the beginning of the year was respectable (8 goals and 3 assists in 14 games), given that the USHL is considered a hard league to score in, and the fact that his team (Cedar Rapids) is the second-lowest scoring team in the league. Something went awry though, as he elected to head back to BC, and he's also flip-flopped on where he's going to college next year. Perhaps the pressure is getting to him? I hope not, but he's still only 19, so I'm already looking to next year with this kid, this season might be a write-off. Not sure how it works though- he will have played 2 years in junior this summer, but will be attending college next year. Littler can't go to college if he's signed, so do the Flames retain his rights past this summer, if he's declared for the NCAA?

In fairness to Littler, no player on the Vees is PPG, there are two other drafted forwards (plus a drafted defenseman), and it is the best team in the BCHL.
He's probably better off playing for the Vees, where he's a good player on the best team with players/coaching that can push his skills, than playing for Cedar Rapids, where he was the undisputed best player on a bad team and still leads the team in goals even though he left the team 17 games ago.

Does Littler earn a contract or does his team jumping be viewed as a warning sign and the Flames stay away? Has he impressed enough to get signed?

he's committed to North Dakota in the fall, hasn't he? I'd imagine he'll play a college season or two before that becomes a factor. Doubt he gets an offer at this point. He hasn't set the world on fire with his production, given that it's his D+2 year.

I asked that question- because he’s committed to college next season, do we retain his rights longer than the usual 2 years?

I'm honestly not sure. I believe that for players who play another year of BCHL/USHL hockey after their draft and then go to college, you keep their rights for 4 years (1 year of BCHL/USHL plus 3 years of college). Littler has now played two extra years of BCHL/USHL hockey, I don't know how it works in that case ... but I'd imagine it's similar because the 2 years only apply to OHL, WHL and QMJHL, I believe.

Being below ppg in your D+2 season is not a good sign that you'll be an NHL player in the future.
Not the end of the world for a 7th round pick to not make it. I seem to recall some controversy on the pick? Something about better BCHL guys still being available, so Littler was a bit of an outfield selection (if you can call drafting a guy in the 7th round that)

The Flames kept Mitchell Mattson's rights through his time in college even though his freshman year was two years after he was drafted. I assume Littler should be the same.
