The center of the universe mentality isn't just a Canadian thing with Toronto. It's the same for a lot of Americans in the larger US markets. Salt Lake City would be akin to Winnipeg in Canada to a lot of Americans.

Or Buffalo, Columbus, and Raleigh. Players aren't exactly rushing to sign in those spots either.

I feel like Marchessault will be their target. He will look for a final big contract.

Calgary, Chicago, Detroit for starters.

Calgary wouldn't be interested in Stamkos. Nor, I think, would Chicago. Detroit maybe.

I think they'll be hard after some dmen. Montour and Aho. Maybe Zadorov if he continues to up his stock in playoff play.

I took a trip to SLC this winter and it's honestly great. I'd happily live there before a ton of NHL cities. I don't think they'll have any difficulty attracting players.

I just drove through Utah and I realized it's like a better Alberta. More snow-capped mountains right beside you instead of 1.5 hours away, the equivalent of the Calgary to Edmonton corridor completely built out with highways, cities, commercial centers, all along the whole thing, etc.
Biomes from praries/snowy rockies down to red rock desert. Super close and new rivalry to Vegas. It would be a cool place to live and play.

From what I've read SLC is similar to Austin. It's one of those deals where the state is, generally, quite conservative and religious, so all the people who don't fit that mold congregate in one area.
Never been to SLC, but it could be a fun place to, especially now that it has an NHL team.

Good call. I'm certain he'll be asking for 8+, I doubt Vegas can offer anything close to that. He'll get an extra 1-2 million per year going to another team.

If he would sign for 2 seasons, both teams would jump at that.

Vegas can do that! They just need to convince someone to be on LTIR!

Our mtn biking grp might have to stop in for a hockey game on the way to Moab for our annual spring trips.

If Utah does anything at all, let it be trading Barret Hayton to the Flames.

I'd gladly live in any NHL city on a league min salary. Other than Edmonton of course.

A million times this. I visited there a few years ago, not expecting much, and it quickly became my favourite city. If I was an American I'd strongly consider moving there.
There's a reason SLC is one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the US.

Been to both cities, SLC is nothing like Auston. It's a creepy, buttoned up boring ass town with great views - I'm glad I no longer need to travel there for work.

Why does Calgary want Stamkos over the next two years? What does it accomplish?

Not that I think Stamkos would ever come to Calgary because he'd choose to sign with a contender but there are tons of reasons to sign stamkos to a 2 year deal.
Deal him at deadline. Good role model for younger players. Proven winner. 40 goals.
