Yup, I'm the same. I've tried it a few times, but I almost always end up peeking at the final score beforehand because I can't help myself. If the Flames won, then I'll definitely skim through the game to watch the highlights. If they lost, I get bummed out and immediately delete it from my PVR without watching.

I always end up ...
seeing the score online
or seeing goals posted on FB
or having a friend text me

This is an example where NHL.tv is your friend. I always can watch the game from the beginning any time . Every game I start at least an hour after it begins so I can fast foreward through commercials and intermissions. I just stay off Cp and Facebook .

I only watch recorded games now. Can't stand all the crap in between play and don't have the time to spare 2 to 3 hours.
Plus I like to skip the shenanigans the officials pull on the faceoffs. Sometimes it literally takes 15 seconds to drop the puck after the players are set. I'm fast forwarding 10s on game centre, and the puck still isn't dropped, it's ridiculous.

Yeah you certainly have to be careful about avoiding social media etc where you'll likely see updates. I'll also ignore texts which I suspect will be goal updates.
I do it all the time though, even 7pm games I often start at 8pm or so once the kid is in bed

Put the phone away!
You can watch the entire game in an hour and a half if you skip all the ads and intermissions.
My go to strategy is to start watching the game one hour after game start. By the time you catch up the game is almost done and you're watching it live while skipping all the ad bs.

I'm betting Rittich is in tonight, and then Smith gets the Coyotes game. They had a day off between games, so Rittich should be good to go. Peters isn't dumb. Best to ride the hot goaltender tonight against a Vegas team that's gonna be fired up right from puck drop.

Its not even just the fact that Dave is the hot-hand, Smith has been atrocious.
We're at the point where it might be prudent to still play Dave even on back-to-backs because Smith just cant make a save.
We dont have the luxury of looking at the Coyotes and thinking: 'ah, that should be an easy game so play Smith.'
Hes cost us too many points already.

True, but Smith is gonna have to play eventually. We don't want to ride Rittich into the ground and wear him out. If Dave is gonna get us to the promised land, he'll need to rest once in a while.
But you're right, anytime Smith starts, it feels like an automatic loss.

If they can pump in 5 goals in the first again, make that a thing, then I would feel pretty good about Smith

I have had my boys and their friends from college here for three days, and 'the last feeding' was just completed. They are all on their way to their dad's now, and I am so glad it's an early game because I wouldn't be able to stay awake for a late one! Happy Black Friday- Rowdy the Wonder Dog says another Flames slaughter with a big push in the third. GFG!

I'd bet that Smith starts against Arizona. It is his former team and that may be extra motivation for him to get things back on track in that game.
As others have said, you can't ride Rittich the rest of the way. He will need breaks here and there. Let's not go all Oil and overplay one goalie because the other one sucks. Let's work with Smith to get his game back and have a good combo again. Smith won't get his game back if he isn't tested in games.

No, we cannot risk him in Intra-Divisional games. We have to win as many games within our own Division as possible.
Right now the Pacific is the League's weak little brother, our best shot at the playoffs is playing well within our own division.
Let Smith play against the East if you have to.

I do it almost every game. My toddler usually goes to bed around 7:30-8 so I am often starting the games late. I will do that for eastern games as well. I am very disciplined with it and find I watch the game closely. My phone is put away so no one can spoil it for me. When I am watching live on TV I might come to CP or be checking scores and other things but when I am on PVR delay I just focus on the game.
I don’t have a problem with fast forwarding unless the game is a runaway loss for the Flames.
If I can get everything done today I will go watch live but I have the pvr set just in case

now.sportsnet.ca is actually monumentally better than using TSN's streaming service.
