But yeah, in either case it's pretty crazy that Connor didn't win it.

Connor had exact points but more goals (fewer assists) than Eichel last year, which is why I think it's a bit of a snub. But I understand the reasoning behind it and how they want to give it to seniors for reasons pointed out.

in 2014 Ehlers at #9 would be top 5
in 2012 Trouba at #9 would be top 3-5
In 2011 Scheifele at #7 would be top 5
in 2013 they picked Morrissey @ #13 and he would have fallen to late 1st round based on his weak first year as a pro.

I sure hope Morrissey does not turn out to be a bust. We need a good LHD.

Really jealous that the Jets have Kyle Connor. Kid looks like Mike Modano v2.0. Good for them.

Gaudreau, Kucherov, Landeskog, RNH, Saad, Hamilton, Huberdeau, Palat, and Couturier all say hi.
I was on the Trouba train at the draft, but I don't think he goes top 5 if re-done right now. I think he'd be the 5th defenseman taken (Reilly, Lindholm, Gostisbehere and Murray), along with forwards Forsberg, Galchenyuk, and maybe Pearson and Teraveinen
As for Ehlers, he doesn't bump any of the top 4 IMO. And the top candidate to bump Dal Colle would be Larkin or Pasternak.
But I agree that Morrissey would slide a bit.

We drafted someone named "Lane MacDonald" in 1989? Awesome. There was no scouting report...just his name.

Scheifele > Kucherov, Saad, Hamilton, Palat, Couturier, RNH
Scheifele = Landeskog
Gaudreau was drafted 4th round, so was a complete surprise.
Scheifele was arguably one of the top forwards in the NHL post All-Star break.

He was drafted in 1985. He played for Team USA at the Calgary Olympics too.

Very very debatable list of players you think he is better than at the top specifically the first 3.

Is Bennett still ahead of Ehlers? why?
Since the all star game this year Ehlers is 16 pts in 23 games 19:11/game and +4
Bennett since the all star game is 14pts in 30 games -11 playing just under 15 minutes/game. Bennett has 3 games this year over 18 minutes... He has had no stretch as a top line player.
I guess you don't follow the jets that much.... Scheifele somehow has matched or bettered Monahan's very impressive stats in almost all categories
Monahan - Scheifele
toi 19:10 - 18:32
ppg .78 - .86
goals/game .33 - .41
Hits/game .5 - .7
GvA 38 - 35
TkA 55 -61
Blkshts/game .5 - .5
FO % 51.0 - 44.2
+/- -6 - +16
age 21 -23 Scheifele 19 months older
so Monahan has more TOI/gm and a better faceoff %.
Would you trade Monahan even up for RNH? Pretty sure the Jets wouldn't trade Scheifele for RNH even up either. Work it from there RNH would still be a top 3-5 pick in that draft and Scheifele is clearly better.
Scheifele might be #2 in that draft behind Johnny Hockey. Landeskog has had 2 years in a row that would be considered a huge disappointment if Monahan , Gaudreau or Scheifele had next year.
You are somehow able to compare Hamilton's unrealized potential with what Scheifele is accomplishing.

Who would he bump. I don't think he goes higher than any of McDavid, Eichel, Strome, Hanifin or Marner.
He probably gets into the top 10.

Scheiffele is underrated by many that is true. Your analysis of Bennett vs Ehlers is questionable.

Are you really comparing a winger on a team that traded away its 1st line winger captain to a center who was being lined up with the likes of Getzlaf and Kopitar?
And I'm not even gonna touch +/-.

Just painful analysis once again. I think most GM's take Bennett and his 2 less points over Ehlers. Ehlers has jumped to 5th in a redraft today but your small sample size that barely supports your narrative is not enough to tip the scales.
What Schifele did for the first time in his career 5 years after he was drafted Monahan did for the second time 3 years after he was drafted.
Dougie at 22 has 2 straight seasons of 10+ goals and 40+ points. This is not potential these are results. Dmen take longer to develop but he has had very impressive seasons where Schifele is starting to show what he can be.
Johnny is a clear #1 in 2011 but there are several other players that would be in the mix for number 2. Schiefele is in that mix with Dougie, Saad, RNH, Huberdeau, Couturier

1) Scheifele is getting the same ice time as a centre as Hamilton is getting as a Defenseman / PP specialist. If Hamilton were playing anywhere close to his hype (and potential) there is no possible way the Flames are not in the playoffs. Wideman and Russell were both getting more ice time than Hamilton and when they both were taken out of the Flames roster all their minutes went to Engelland rather than Hamilton.
2) Your argument about Monahan being so solid right out of junior and Scheifele only having 2 seasons as a top-6 forward goes against 2,361 or more posts on the development of Jankowski. Scheifele was a bean pole "project" when he was selected by the Jets.... there was no big discussion when he went back to juniors twice. His is a prototypical development case that most organizations say they want to do with young top prospects but the Jets actually did and it has worked out.
sorry no more none Connor posts from me.
