Traffic is one of the hardest things to fix in this game I'm finding. I'm trying very hard to get traffic issues fixed but I'm probably going to have to bulldoze half the city now to transition to one way streets for my highways. I used two way roads by mistake the whole time before I understood how traffic or looked how highways worked and behaved differently than normal roads now it's just a clusterfata of traffic jams.
I'm probably going to just start over and see how things go.

Also, good advice regarding roads:
If you don't need to create an intersection, don't. Period.

Just downloaded the game but I find it quite laggy. Safe to assume its the computer I am using? Is there anything I can do/buy (without buying a new computer) to make it run better? This computers always just been used for work so I wouldnt be surprised if it is not advanced enough to game on.

For all the people asking if their computer will run this - the CPU requirements aren't too bad but the video card requirements are pretty tough:
nVIDIA GeForce GTX 260, 512 MB / ATI Radeon HD 5670, 512 MB
Onboard graphics won't really cut it. If you don't know what that means, you probably can't run it (Macbooks that are 13" or less especially)

The game runs like garbage when zoomed even halfway on a GTX 980, its just poorly optimized.

I have a GTX 660, and 16 gb RAM and it runs fine zoomed in all the way.

Depends on what you're looking for I'd guess. Running fine on my laptops integrated graphics card. (Can't remember the version number, and too tired to dig it up.) They're pretty good good these days. Resolution is 1366x762 or whatever, but other than that I have the settings pretty high.
City isn't that big though, just hit 30,000. Seems like I'm pausing the game half the time anyway. It's just more relaxing when I'm doing something like drawing bus routes. That takes forever...

What's your graphics card?
It runs reasonably well on my 2012 15" Macbook Pro, which has the Intel HD 3000 graphics card; no lag, any time I ever notice graphics issues are that it doesn't zoom in/out smoothly. But once within any zoom level, graphics are great.
edit: At 2014 you've probably got the Intel Iris 5100? As far as I can tell, that's equivalent to the Intel HD 5000, which should be significantly better than mine. So I would feel reasonably confident saying that you should be able to run the game.

To be fair, I'm forcing 8x MSAA and SuperSampling, but honestly!

That's brutal. Was going to upgrade to a 980, but think I will hold off for now. Running GTX 460 with 4 gb and no issues on my end.

So I finally got the game over the weekend and wow this game is really addictive.
Honestly, I don't have any complaints about the game, it's really good.
Glad that they're allowing flexible modding of the game. Can't wait to see what the community will create in the near future.

Im really hoping to see:
-fun new policies
-specialization for sports (stadiums for soccer, hockey, with maybe even stuff about team records etc)
-improvements to things like metro lines, bus lines, etc. already some stuff out there but it can improve
-better and more diverse power sources
-more diverse looking models for buildings
-building genres like sim city had before
-difficulty mods that are very configurable
-graphic improvement mods to replace textures with higher resolution ones
etc.
this game just nails the formula for being fun, interesting, and easy to play. yet it can be uber complex if you want it to be.
its so fun. best 40 bucks ive spent.

speaking of mods, maybe we can start sharing each others favourites?
this one made me snort out loud at work:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile...58&searchtext=
traffic light removal mod:
FAQ:
"Does this actually change traffic, or is it just cosmetic?" - It actually changes the traffic: The cars respect created traffic lights and when traffic lights are removed the cars try to drive through every gap they find (and they are very good at finding the gap...looks kind of funny for intersections with a lot of traffic)
lol!

So here's what I've been doing for the last week I just passed 40k residents.
This is the overview. Upper left is where you start with this map.
Here's a bit more atmospheric shot from essentially the opposite angle. I really love geography of this place, very scenic and interesting to work with.
The district system is one of my favourite features in the game. I love giving different parts of the town really distinct character and names, like Cube City for the grid pattern office hell, or this sleepy little corner of the city stuck between the mountain and some of the the most densely populated areas of the city. I called it Cathedral District for obvious reasons.
I was somewhat short on interesting things to do with the main city, so I spent yesterday creating the part in the picture below. From left to right that's Lumberville (designed to produce much needed uneducated workers), Harborville and Northtown. Northtown was essentially born because I got so attached to the look of Harborville that my original expansion plan had to be moved somewhere else
Originally the traffic to the harbor and the (very slowly growing) surrounding industrial area was also supposed to just go through Harborville, so deciding to leave it as this cute little haven also gave my a good reason to finally do something with the freeway tool.

Hey guys I'm considering this game. I guess it goes without saying everyone here recommends it. Steam reviews are also "overwhelmingly positive".
Question though, is it worth the extra $10 for the deluxe edition? I've never been much into city building games, just Civilizations.
