The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little, and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the Company is true. Go Flames Go!
I just loved the way he called highlights. So unique and so natural, like he was literally born just to do that.
To this day, I still use "back-to-back jacks" almost all the time. Like when the Flames put up two quick ones, I'll be like "woooooo back-to-back jacks, baby!"
This guy was just such a baller.

I was another kid who grew up watching Sportsnight on ITV for my daily highlights. Even though it was Edmonton-based I never got the homer oiler bias from him. I’ve always associated him with my hockey memories. He seemed like a decent guy and the stories here prove that out.
Feels like we lost a huge part of my generation of sports broadcasters. I’m an old millennial, but growing up in the 90s, he was the voice and personality I instantly recognized.
Rip man
Heard the news this morning. It was very sad to hear of his passing. Easily one of the best sports reporters on TSN, and all of TV for that matter. Always had a way of delivering the news in a fun way, that no one else could equal. RIP Dutch. You'll always be remembered fondly by Canadian sports fans. Bickety Bam!
My favorite Dutchy moment was when he joined Jay and Dan on their podcast and was doing a Bane impression. Sad to hear this news.
Not to derail too much but Dutchy was what Jay & Dan always tried (way, waaaay too hard) to be: charismatic and funny. I've always loathed Jay & Dan because their shtick was so forced and inauthentic. Dutchy didn't have to put on an act to be hilarious and full of personality: he just was.
Yeah recall him from ITV in Edmonton, seemed ok considering the cheerleaders they always had up there.
No mention yet of the shortlived experiment when Mike Toth went to TSN, Dutchyshen had more or less just gotten there too, and him and Dutchyshen did TSN Sportsdesk.
A few Calgary and Edmonton jokes given they both worked the 11pm highlight show for the same independent broadcasters in each city at the same time.
The duo was made up into a pretty big deal. Only lasted a couple months though and Toth was pushed to non primetime Sportsdesk, and was gone after a year or less.
This one hits home hard. Watched him for years. My friends and I always called him Ketchup. For some reason he always had really red lips as if he ate a bag of Ketchup chips before his broadcast.
Jokes aside. Really good broadcaster.
