So, it IS the Beatles library. At least Jobs didn't make a keynote speech about it.

Frankly The Beatles sound too dated now.
Needs more compression and auto tune if their songs want to compete for purchase in todays market.

What does "overrated" mean exactly? "Overrated" is such a useless term when it comes to music. The fact that their music has remained popular to this day is telling in itself. "Popular but I don't like it" does not equal "overrated".
I'm not a fan of their music. I could probably only name 5 or 6 songs in their entire catalog that I actually like. However I do understand the influence they had and still have. I can appreciate that they were a very talented and groundbreaking group, even though their music is not my style.
|
Overrated, because they were popular and influential, but they weren't very good. They got too much attention for their talent level - that's prettying the definition of overrated.
Of course, that's not exactly uncommon throughout history, and certainly even today.

You do realize they invented a genre of music that has stayed relevant for over half a century, right? Is Alexander Graham Bell overrated because his telephone invention wasn't as sophisticated as an iPhone?
The Beatles pioneered the direction of popular music. Every artist you listen to today was influenced by them. Their guitar riffs, especially in the early years, were not complicated, but that's part of the wonder of them.
Not trying to be all high and mighty, but with the Beatles it's about more than talent level. That said, John Lennon was more than talented, he was a musical genius.

That said, all the members of the Beatles were geniuses, except for Ringo.

$150 seems like a good deal. The Box Set on Amazon is $220. I've always wanted to own all the Beatles stuff, but never got around to it. Is the iTunes stuff mono or stereo? I assume it's the remastered stuff right?

Well that's disappointing. Certainly a forgettable day! Anyone who was a big fan of the Beatles already bought the CD version, so I guess some casual listeners might get in on this now. It definitely isn't making me head out to iTunes and pick the songs up.

They dropped their boxsets to 120 haha. Definitely a 'NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!' moment for Amazon.com.

Amazon.ca is still asking $220. But I'm sure that won't last.
Is there any difference between the physical box set and the iTunes box set?

I could download the entire discography for the total cost of $0

Not related to anyone in this thread, but it really doesn't surprise me that someone whose rich mommy and daddy won't pay 3 bucks for him to park his turbo mustang in the park and ride has no problem ripping off hundreds of dollars of music.

Interesting to note that The Beatles Box Set ($150) is already #8 on the iTunes Albums Chart, after being on sale for only 3 hours.
Edit: That's in iTunes Canada. Nothing has broken the top 10 in the US yet... but Abbey Road is 11, White Album is 12, Box Set is 13, Sgt. Pepper is 14 and all the other ones are at various spots after that. Guess people really have been waiting for them to come to iTunes (I'd given up a while back).
Weird, though. I already have most of their albums in my library, and I figured most everyone else would have too. I can understand the Box Set being high on the charts, but I wasn't expecting all the other albums to be up there with it.
