Healthy scratch I believe, as SKA was without a bunch of their regulars and they're starting to return

Not even an invite for Nikolaev to the world juniors training camp (and this is excluding Russians playing in NA). People really need to temper expectations here on what looks like a bad pick
He’s 40th for points per game playing in a Junior league he should have graduated by now. None of the other players from Russia drafted in his range have such flat development and most are getting looks in the KHL by now

Pavel Karnaukhov might have finally figured something out. The 23 year old has 7 G 3 A 10 Pts after 20 games. He is one point from surpassing his career high.

Ilya Solovyov ( the Flames 7th pick this year) is playing for Dinamo Minsk in the KHL this year. He has played 13 games, has 2 assists and is -2. It looks like when he does play it is on the fourth D pairing ( KHL Amirite). Dinamo Minsk has played 20 games, meaning that Solovyov has already sat out on a handful of hockey ( still he has played 7 more games than his team mate and 2016 round 7 Stepan Falkovsky). Minsk is a good team they're 4th in the west and play in the same division as the powerhouse CSKA Moscow.

It is worth noting that although he has 'graduated' he is not playing every game. Voronezh left him out of the lineup today for example.

Nikolayev scored his first goal in the VHL on Saturday night.
EDIT: wait, or his second goal. I am getting some mixed information here. Pretty sure the site I am using doesnt have accurate info on the VHL.

Nikolayev with his 4th goal in last 6 games. This time scored on Chechelev on the powerplay after the first couple stops were made.

Ilya Nikolayev is starting to get more consistent starts in the VHL, he has a goal and an assist in his last three games.

Looks like he has settled into the VHL nicely. Still not remarkable, but at least he has adjusted and started putting up points.

A quick update:
-Nikolayev is a regular with Buran and is playing top six minutes every game.
-Chechelev has been called up to the KHL's Vityaz Podolsk to back up their main goalie. (Edmonton prospect Piotr Kochetkov has been sent down to HC Ryazan to get more playing time.)
-Solovyov has been a scratch recently with Dynamo Minsk.
-Zavgorodniy has been a scratch frequently with SKA, but that's primarily because they want to give their home-grown players playing time.
-Same thing with Zagidulin with Metallurg; he's their third goalie and rarely dresses.

Nikolayev's VHL stats so far
27gp 6g 5a 11pts
2 points in the last 9 games is not very encouraging.

Solovyov has played 25 of a possible 41 KHL games his season.
His production isnt great, but thats not really a good was to determine the quality of a D man.
At 20 he is at least getting some pro experience, and isnt bad for a 7th rounder, but I have a hunch we don't see him come to N.A.

No doubt.
I'll never understand why the Flames keep wasting longshot draft picks on players with little history of offensive upside.
There are multiple players in many leagues that are statistical outliers that these picks can be spent on, that actually may have some future as a prospect in the systems.
Guys like this, Feuk, Nodler, Mattson have not been elite or even above average scorers in any league.
Seems so wasteful.

Solovyov played in the CHL and recorded 40 points in 53 games. I don't think he is a slouch at all, playing in the KHL (even a little) at 20 is not a small thing either.
But yeah, even if he does develop into a bottom pairing D man, he will get paid much more to play at home.

Powerplay Quarterback

Solovyov is 20 years old and he's already a #4/5 dman in the KHL. He's also second in both hits and blocked shots on his team.
He's a steal of a 7th rounder so far.
