I'm going to try the new commute out tonight when I leave work. I get excited by the little things in life. A road excites me. How sad.

Too bad we didn't take the reservation land a long time ago. So short sighted.

As a Southy, the rejection of the land deal pisses me off so much that I want the city to build an elevated (think plus 30) 37th Street with zero access to the Grey Eagle Casino to go with what will probably be a bridge over Glenmore Reservoir. Good luck getting people to your Casino from the south entrance to the reserve!

Alright. These are 3 BRUTAL quality cellphone videos from my virgin trip westbound on the new ring road portion. Again, the quality is brutal, half because the sun was directly in front of the camera.
The quality is so bad, I shouldn't have even bothered uploading them. But, if you want to come for a ride with me and the banana mobile, watch.
Edit:
I have a way to make them better quality. Will repost in a few.

Clearly a +30 would only hurt the Lakeview residents through increased traffic noise but I share your sentiment. It's a democratic result and we need to move on from it.
I'm worried that the City and Province will take the no vote as a rejection of the deal (see the Alberta Liberal Leader's comments) or the route or something and return to the bargaining table. It's too bad but a freeway that runs along the 37th street route seems to be the only option that's left. It's just really ugly to try to put one there given the proximity to the community combined with a tight 90 degree turn from Glenmore.
I think that the reserve will find the expense of building an on-off-ramp to their shiny new casino will be more than they bargained for.

Awesome, Simons Valley Road is going to be used quite a bit by me now. Was hoping I could get onto it via Range Road 13/Center St, but Simons will do just fine.

I think it's time to get out of the denial stage and accept that the SW ring road is never going to happen. These deals with the reserve have fallen through so many times now, how can anyone seriously negotiate with them any more? And cutting over the Weaselhead is a non-starter. The SW ring road is dead, and so is the Stoney Trail extension from Hwy 1 to Hwy 8. The money should instead be spent on developing the "outer ring road" along Hwy 22 and 22X from SW Calgary through Bragg Creek.

Agreed... time to surround them. It's going to happen eventually anyways. We can't just keep giving them additional land and push them into Kananaskis.
If they had accepted the previous deal, we would still be building north and south of the reserve, leaving only entrances to the east of each "community" for access. That's very limiting. Might as well make a ring road wrapping the west side of the reserve and a smaller "collector" road around the north, east, south sides of the reserve. Plan for the future future, not the immediate future.

I just used RR13 to get home from Airdrie for the first time tonight. It's great! This will cut my commute time by easily 10 minutes, and likely another 5-10 once Deerfoot link is opened.
Then burn 100km/hr down the new ring road! I'm in asphalt bliss!
My previous route was:
HWY 567 (Veterans Blvd)
Symons Valley
Some random gravel road
South on 85th Street
East on Country Hills Blvd
South on Ring Road
It didn't suck all that bad because there was rarely traffic... but this new way should be awesome!

You know that the Bragg Creek route is about 50km from city boundary to city boundary right?
I don't accept that a freeway over Weaselhead is a non-starter. The City built Stoney trail high above the Bow River and at ground level, you can barely tell that there is traffic above you. As far as the threat of a spill or something, we already have Glenmore Trail crossing the reservior so clearly accomodations can be made to make such a causeway safe.
There is significant additional cost in building an elevated road over such a span but elevated highways like that aren't anything new in the world. We are a million-person city. It's time we started thinking like one and spend the money to make it work.

Oh, so you can get onto the NW Ring road to head West from RR 13?
If so... this is awesome. Now I can get to Banff/Kananaskis much quicker from Red Deer.

This road is terrible. Only two lanes? Who thought 2 lanes was a good idea, do they have a mentally challenged chimpanzee running their infrastructure planning?
There should be at least 4 lanes going each way.
