Gaudreau has figured in on 40% of our team’s goals this season. The only other player who has done the same thing is Connor McDavid. Gaudreau is our version of Connor McDavid but at half the price going forward. Not a chance I’d trade Gaudreau for Karlsson. We’re deep on defensemen and we’re horrible on fordward depth. We need more forwards, not defensemen.

Hypothetically if the Flames were to go all in on a player I'd prefer Tavares (if he was available and signed to an extension). No idea how it would work cap wise with Backlund signed, but if you're going to pay a 'king's ransom' that's the player I would want.

McDavid and Karlsson can only play 55 minutes.
They would be the worst team in the league after them.

If the Flames wanted to get in on this they easily could.
If the Flames build a package around Hamilton it would be tough for other teams to beat. If they really wanted him they could add a combination of Bennett, Jankowski, Ferland, Frolik, Andersson, Fox, Dube, 2019 1st.
If they really wanted him they could get Karlsson without giving up Gaudreau, Monahan, Tkachuk, or Backlund.
It is possible they could build a massive package around Brodie as well.
Flames do not have anyone making superstar money so they could probably make the cap work.

I wouldn't.
Not because Karlsson's value isn't equal or greater than Gaudreau's, but because we're already much stronger at D than O and our offense would be horrible without Johnny.

Unless Karlsson plays RW the Flames should stay away.

Doubt Karlson is going anywhere. Damaged goods and not worth the asking price

Monahan straight across
I'd like to keep him but I can't see any other deal within reason that will work

With Melnyk as the owner, I'd guess there's a 75% chance he's dealt at the deadline to save money in a season going down the tubes anyway. From his perspective there would be no point in paying a player between now and June if the team isn't going anywhere. The good thing is, if he deals the guy he'd probably be able to rebuild the Sens pretty quickly given what they could get for him. On the other hand, a franchise d-man doesn't grow on trees. Melnyk is a crappy owner and person. If he only were able to explain the situation they're in, fans would be able to stomach it. But he's all about winning an argument and leaving the player out to dry. It's all about who is he going to crap on this year, so be ready for him to say something incredibly stupid when the deal eventually happens.

Technically true. Also true: They did much worse that pull hair or bite a finger.

I think the bolts would be best served by not trying to make a trade like this until the off season, regardless of how much they think they could use EK, for this layoffs, and future playoffs.
To me you’d likely have to give up a couple of roster players and that could really change your team, and locker room more than expected - but what do I know.
As an aside, I wonder if the sens would be interested in trading for Brouwer?

No, they ended careers other ways.
Bertuzzi should've never played in the NHL after the Moore attack. It was a disgrace to see him wear the Canadian sweater in 2006, and it was an awful feeling to cheer for him. Whenever I see Bertuzzi jerseys at the Dome, it's like 'that dude broke someone else's neck and ruined his life, but he also did score 43 points for us once'.
And he's a former Canuck. Don't wear that guy's shirt.
Marchment also stings because they only signed him because Sutter gave away Lydman.
