If there is an extension in place it makes me believe that this may be a hockey trade instead of a futures deal.
Will be interesting to see who is involved.

Maybe not from a fan perspective, but I would bet that anything Tampa Bay can offer is probably within the ballpark of the maximum other teams are going to offer. Might be a case of inflated expectations on our side, but there are some realistic (good) pieces that make TB as good a destination as anyone else.

Don't want Howard.
Some combination of Perbix, Gauthier, Huuhtanen, Thompson and a 1st 2026 would be alright with me.

I have heard Lundell is not in play from Florida. I reported a couple days ago the initial offer from TB was 2026 1st, 2024 3rd, and Howard. I wonder if they accepted that or if there has been some tinkering.

the biggest issue for me with TB is that a 2026 1st, if part of the package is two years away from even happening.
Then add 3 more years to see if you have a player from it, maybe 4. This is a ~5 year investment. That isn't planning for now, this is planning for 2030. Decent chance the front office won't even see the fruits of their labor, coaching staff will have changed, perhaps twice.

isn't Calgary going to have to take on some salary for this to work for TB?
Would Hagel as part of the puzzle be something to consider?

Is anybody tracking the flight? I heard it made a stop in Toronto.

For whatever it's worth, on 32 thoughts today, Elliott was talking to Jeff about Florida and how good their team is and how they're set to compete for a cup for the next few seasons and should go all in this year.
Elliott says that the best/only pieces they really have available to move are Lundell and their young goalie. Both Elliott and Jeff agreed that if that's the price they have to pay to win it all this year that they should do it/will do it even though they really like their young players.

Lundell was always a pipe dream. It was always going to be a 1st, roster player, and prospect

Even if it's not Lundell from FLA, I like their prospects more.

Could only really be Cirelli, Sergachev, Hagel or Cernak if it is a hockey trade with salary coming back.

The Lightning have no cap space, so even if the Flames retain on Hanifin's expiring contract, the Lightning still need to dump cap. Who will it be? Paul? Sheary?

When today is 2030, you will want to win now every bit as much as you do today.

Hagel has gone from 44 points to 64 points to likely around 80 points this year and is locked in at 6.5 for 8 years and is 25 years old. Doubt he would be available.

I have no issue with acquiring Howard in a nutshell. Would just prefer a center over yet another winger, but it is what it is.

For this season? Though Hanifin's cheaper I think he eats into injured Sergachev's money. For next year though when his deal kicks in, yeah they'll need to ship someone out either in this deal or in the summer.

Yep, I would think an contract would also be sent back to the Flames (i.e. like the Lindholm trade)
if the trade occurred
