When I call 611 or the toll free number the system just crashes and doesn't even place me on hold.

Telus has now removed all mention of the 10gb plan from their website.

Fido seems to be either absolutely swamped, or have shut 'er down. Previously I was able to get to the "change plan" section of the web site for a comparison, and now just waiting and error messages. Phone and live chat have been multi-hour waits (according to others online), or have simply stopped working entirely.

Does the 10GB for $60 plan offer a 10% BYOD discount?

On Fido - no. The plan is only available as a BYOD plan. I believe it is available for $85 if your phone is being subsidized still.

For anyone on Fido, I saw a trick posted on the Fido forum, and I tried it and it actually worked.
From your handset, dial *88 as it seems to be a bit of a back door into their phone system. It will fail a few times, but after a few attempts it connected. And then I waited about 5-10 minutes, spoke with a guy, and he got me all switched over. The call itself probably took close to 25 or 30 minutes all-in, but most of that was him waiting for their system to respond.
He did also tell me that the promotion ends tomorrow, the 19th, at the end of the day. He mentioned that he has taken about 40 or 50 calls on his shift, and every single one of them was for this offer.

Weird. I went to a Telus store yesterday with my mom and the guy helping her out had it done in 10 minutes. No phone calls needed. He just set everything up online through their system.

Lazy I guess?

Got the 3 lines on my Fido account switched over yesterday. Initiated a chat session on my laptop just before 1 pm. Just let it sit while watching football. Fido responded 4 hours later but it all got done.

I'm glad I switched over to this plan on Saturday morning haha it sounds like it's a nightmare to switch now.

Not even sure my 10 gig with Rogers went through properly, but even $60/5 GB is better than what I had. Hell on earth to try getting through with them now.

This is all pretty funny. Maybe the cell providers will take a hint that people will literally line up to give you their money if they don't feel like they're getting completely ripped off at every turn...
but I doubt it.

I called Saturday morning and switched to the 5gb + 5gb bonus with Rogers from my current Rogers plan. They said I’d get an email confirming the change, but it never came.
Finally Sunday, I went to Bell and switched. I don’t trust Rogers. I know others have said Rogers dropped the 2 year term on Sunday, but I can see them saying “well you signed up before we changed it so you still only get 2 years”
Remind me again why I give my money to people I don’t trust?

The only reason this is happening is because Freedom Mobile is expanding their coverage, plans & phone line up.

CANADA — A limited time offer of 10GB of data for $60 per month by Canada’s main wireless providers have left Canadians reeling in ecstasy as they encounter cell plans that would be pretty standard anywhere else in the world.
“It’s incredible, this plan, I have no words,” gasped longtime Rogers wireless customer Tyrone Johnson, 42, of Kingston. As he repeatedly re-read the details of his new $60 plan, which would actually be considered on the pricey side in Europe or Japan, Johnson blinked back tears of pure joy.

Canada may have expensive cell phone plans, but for how big it is you get some of the fastest internet speeds in the world I have heard.
