No entrance fee. There is a pub and a Subway. The soccer store inside is no longer open.

Yep! My buddy Matt owns it (World of Soccer). Best in the city in my opinion.

Men’s open champions - Afghanistan over Poland in PKs
Men’s Masters champions - my team (Canada) over Scotland 3-1
Women’s champions - a very surprising 4-2 win for Italy over Canada
Place was packed last night and this tournament just seems to gain momentum every year. They actually need to find a way to add additional seating.

I spoke to Tommy about this yesterday. They did have a couple players present and handed out group tickets to all winning teams, took some team photos etc. I mentioned to Tommy they should find a way to grab the mic at half time to do ticket giveaways to the fans as well. Just a little more engagement.

Bump.
2024 Nations Cup starts on Sunday.
24 Men's Open teams, with a few new countries added
8 Women's teams
12 Masters (Over 35) teams - I'm playing for Canada
6 Over 45
As a reminder, if you enjoy the sport, you NEED to come check this out. The soccer centre will be packed almost every night. Flags, face paint, drums, chants...you name it. It's pretty wild. The finals typically get between 1,000-2,000 people packed in such a small space that it feels like far more.
Cavalry players will be there throughout the tournament handing out swag, tickets, etc.
Men's games start on Sunday, and my team looks to defend our championship starting on Monday with a rematch of last year's final vs Scotland. After a 7-month injury, I'm happy to finally be lacing 'em up again.

Men's Open schedule - https://cusa.ab.ca/division/1919/16889/games
Masters Schedule - https://cusa.ab.ca/division/1919/16889/games
Women's schedule - https://cusa.ab.ca/division/1919/16888/games
The men's games I personally think will be good ones on Sunday:
Croatia vs Scotland 5:30
Jamaica vs Canada 6:30
El Salvador vs Argentina at 2:30 might be worth checking out just b/c El Salvador fans are typically the best, but there aren't many good Argentinian players in Calgary, so they're not usually very good.
Of the 24 men's open teams, I expect these teams to be good:
- Italy
- Canada
- Jamaica
- Albania
- Croatia
- Scotland
- El Salvador
- Chile
- Poland
- Afghanistan
These to be OK:
- India
- Serbia
- Venezuela
- Iraq
- Argentina
- Colombia
- Ghana
- Lebanon
- Turkey
Hot garbage that'll likely get smashed:
- Eritrea
- Brazil
- Bangladesh
- Mexico
- Somalia

I went to the semi finals last year because of this thread and it didn't disappoint! Got there early and setup in the pub which had a great view. Definitely will be back again this year and highly recommend it.

Based on my calculations, popcorn and chips just dont have the flight distance or velocity to make them viable candidates, at the moment chicken wings are winning the discussion.
Perhaps even dry ribs.

Some pretty good games thus far, particularly in Men's Open. Some really good teams this year.
Underwhelming - Canada. Not a good roster at all, aside from former Cavs player Dean Northover, but he's not in the same form as he used to be.
Better than expected - Brazil. They brought players in from across Alberta, and this team actually travels to these types of tournaments even in other provinces.
Eritrea - actually quite good. Very young, with their oldest player being about 23. They surprised a veteran Italy team last night by going up 3-0. They ended up holding on to a 3-3 tie after Italy took over. Former PDL player Dominic Russo playing for Italy.
Hilariously bad - Bangladesh. I don't think these poor kids knew what they were getting into when they signed up for this tournament. 15-1 loss to Italy followed up by a 21-0 loss to Brazil. They will lose their final game by a similar scoreline to Eritrea. Record setting pace for this tournament.
My O35 Canada team beat Scotland in our first game 5-1 in a rematch of last year's final. Play Ukraine tonight where a win will take us through to the semis.
Women's has a lot of disparity. It'll be Canada and Italy as the two favourites, with England being decent as well. Canada should win it without a doubt.
This tournament is likely the busiest I've ever seen it, to the point where there are literally no parking spots available, and it's a massive parking lot. I had to park across the street two nights ago.
