Seems like the Flames need a game or two the past few seasons to remember how to defend McDavid. Considering this is the first game of the year between the two clubs (and its on the road) I'm expecting a rough ride. Hope to be pleasantly surprised, but I won't lie. I'm in the same group of people that is left feeling underwhelmed more often than not by this team.

See to me if you spend an entire post trashing the Flames and praising the Oilers you’re going to get questioned.
Is it not a perfectly valid question to wonder if someone who spends most of their time on here trashing the Flames is actually a fan? What does it say about their psychology as a fan?
Sorry but if you’re gonna hate on the Flames all season I’m gonna question your fan hood.
If you have a problem with that I’d suggest it’s you that has the thin skin.
Sure feels like your reaction to scepticism says more about you man, chill. It's OK if the team isn't perfect, it adds great discussion to such forums.
Hopefully tonight starts a positive roll for the team, anyone who's on this site wants nothing more than flames success. Questioning fandom here or mental states comes across as a fairly non-inclusive take.

Ok I don’t believe I have a thin skin but don’t want to argue about such things or about whether people are good enough fans. You do your thing and Go Flames Go.

In spite of their lack of depth, oilers 2 elite forwards generate more than all the flames so called depth it seems this year. The team is also way better defensively under tippet, at least in the games I have seen.
It’s a road game, right after Christmas, I’m sure there’s an excuse the flames can grasp onto to justify a piss poor performance tonight.
I think the flames inability to generate offence 5 on 5 is a major problem. The oilers have the same issues, but their top line should do just fine against the flames average d core.
I really hope I am wrong, but this year’s flames are not very good.
Go flames go.
They're not way better defensively, last year they had a 3.34 gpa this year they have a 3.10 fpg average. that's 9 gaa in 40 games difference. This is more because the Oilers had a hot start goaltending wise then any better defensive play. In fact when you watch them play, I'd argue that the crucial "This guy scored" stat is up thanks to their top line and their I don't give a crap defensive scheme.

If Tippett wants to win, he’ll give Koskinen the start. What will be interesting is if Mike Pouty Smith will complain because he won’t play his old team...
Flames win 8-3. Neal with the hat trick.

It wasn't thrashing or praising. That's hyperbole. It was objective analysis.
I have all the same concerns and all the same impressions of the two teams as bubbsy. The 2019-2020 Calgary Flames have yet to convince me they are a contender or superior to those yokels in the north. Does that make me less a fan? It sure doesn't make me a Flames hating Oiler rooter, I can assure you. And I have never gotten that impression from bubbsy's posts, either.
Any professional hockey analyst worth their salt has their favorites, whether it be teams or players, yet can still stand far enough away to evaluate objectively. I skip over the majority of posts on here because of their subjectivity (that isn't to say they don't have value). The posts that stand out and catch my attention are the ones that offer a balanced opinion.
Like it or not, the Oilers have positives and the Flames have negatives, and vice versa. You shouldn't have to worry about being labeled a hater or Oiler fan (puke) if you explore these talking points...outside of the E=NG threads.
But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

I've always thought there are those that are optimistic that see themselves as realistic, just as there are those that are pessimistic that see themselves as realistic.
Truthfully neither side owns "realistic", and they likely have a bias.
Both groups an important part of a discussion group because they keep the center established.
I honestly have a tough time shooting down either side the way the season has gone to date. This is a frustrating team to watch at times, so you never really know what you're going to get. Luckily they are playing a team that has gone more Hyde then Jekyll of late.
