He just isn't that good anymore...I'm not sure he ever was TBH. Better players were on waivers yesterday.

You can say what you want about Hamonic but I always wonder if the game would have turned out differently if he was on the ice for the flames in Game 4 of the playoffs when we were trying to hold off Dallas.

I don't know why Hanifin's D partners gets blamed for his... deficiencies but Hanifin is a career minus player. 4 of his 5 seasons in the league he's been a minus player.
|
Well we have 2 Flames who have looked significantly better when paired away from Hamonic. Brodie looked like a number 2 playing with Gio and also did very well when he was paired with Engellend (you might recall the 2015 first round). Hanifin looked much better when he was paired with Andersson.

The Flames may not have got past the Jets if Hamonic is playing 2nd pairing minutes. Part of the reason the Flames won that series is because they shut down the Jets offensively. I think he's probably a good guy and teammate but he was awful last season.

So what happens if Hughes doesn't underperform?

For the money and term this was worth it for the Canucks. Wasn't a huge Hamonic fan though, so I'll have no problem rooting against him.

Hope that your GM can find a way to sign him to an 8 year deal at $10M per

I'm just glad the Flames didn't re-sign him.

Great price and term for an aging third pairing defender.
Unfortunately, the Canucks will be using him on their first pairing. Let's see how miraculous Hughes can be in this situation.

Some of us have had him on ignore for a very long time. I suggest you all do the same.

All I needed to see was I assume a grown man with G unit as his avatar and that was enough to block.

No hard feelings and I wish him the best.
He never lived up to expectations here, but he was an honest player and a warrior.
I’m mostly glad that chapter is behind us because I still can’t get over the trade. Giving up a 1st, then missing the playoffs. Travesty.

Hindsight is 20/20. At the time COVID was still new to everyone and the concept of a bubble was still just a concept with no proof that it would work.
I have no doubts if Hamonic had the information he does now back in July he would have played, but given what was known at the time you can’t hold it against him for opting out.
I’m sure some people still do, but IMO it’s not fair.

There is nothing wrong with Hamonic's deal, and I also think that the term on Tanev's is too long. But there is no way I swap the two heading into this season. I think that Tanev is a better defenseman, and watching him in last night's scrimmage did nothing to change my mind.

I know not many Flames fans are Craig Button fans but he was adamant that the Canucks D downgraded significantly by swapping Tanev and Stecher for Schmidt and Hamonic. He said Hamonic will have no chance to be the safety blanket for Hughes that Tanev was.
One guys opinion but I like it

I think if a player is not utilized how THEY think they should be (Amonte), then they may have a sour taste in there mouths about the organization.
