If you enjoy Bud over pretty much any beer that isn't less expensive than it, then you're a bad person.

That said, I was speaking to a friend that went on a weekend trip with a group to the Flathead valley. Despite the abundance of great microbreweries in the area, which can all be found at any grocery store for the same price more or less, they spent the entire trip drinking Bud. I personally don't understand it and would rather go without if the only option is Bud, but whatever... Go to any Super 1, or ideally Brix bottle shop, in Kalispell- the selection of local beer is amazing. Can't imagine picking up a few dozen cans of Bud.
|
Yeah nah, I am gonna pass judgement right here and now. Kalispell is Moose Drool country, to drink anything but that lovely brown ale is a crime against everything awesome.

You Sir are correct.
I confused Types of Beer and Styles of Beer.
I am sorry.

I prefer Trout Slayer when it comes to Big Sky, but enjoy Moose Drool. Not a big fan of the Big Sky IPA at all. The Tamarack Hat tirck is about as good an IPA as it gets imo. Bayern and Harvest Moon are also great breweries in Montana. Not hard to find them in calgary liquor stores.

I am not an IPA fan.
Have you ever seen Moose Drool up here?

I am not sure where to get Big Sky in Calgary, but do see Bayern, Harvest Moon, and Tamarack quite often.

While we may joke about beer snobbery (guilty as charged), that is probably exactly why something like Bud is the most popular brand. When us beer snobs go to the liquor store, we are effectively splitting our vote because we seek out variety and obscurity. And taste. (Sorry, I had to.)
It would be interesting to see what the market share for each brand actually is. Just because it is the most popular brand, as a percentage of total beer sales across the country, it is still probably quite low.

Beer snobbery comments are funny. I can't even remember the last time I drank a beer (more of a scotch or vodka guy).
That said, I have working taste buds and can tell what is garbage and what isn't, and can appreciate a good beer. Too many calories and too filling for me however.

Beer snobbery, like music snobbery, like food snobbery, like all subjective snobbery is foolish.
The only exception is Lake Snobbery, objectively Lake Snobbery is acceptable.

It's surprisingly difficult to find info about beer company market share in Canada.
If you Google "Canada beer market share", you get a lot of sources that seem to contradict Budweiser being the top beer in Canada by market share. Most sources show Labatt and Molson as the top 2 with Sleeman and Moosehead registering. There is nothing concrete though.
I came across this picture similar to the original one (spoiler for size):

Why is it snobbery? I like what I like, and I don't like what I don't like. I'm willing to try any beer, and I'll never form an opinion before I've tried it.
If that is snobbery, then guilty as charged.

President's Choice beer is surpassingly not bad.
For a while I was drinking Mickey's because I like the little green bottles and the riddles under the cap, but the beer itself is kind of nasty.

I absolutely love when the generic brand is better than the 'brand' name when it comes to any product.
There were a few instances where certain generic brand chips were better than the national brand, sauces, drinks, etc. I feel like a champ when I discover one.

Mickey's has always tasted like cooked ground beef to me. It's a strange thing to be drinking.

Since this thread is slowly turning into what beers we like, currently I am quite enjoying Blue Moon. Got a case of it in my fridge, but I gave up alcohol for Lent so I'm waiting until Easter
My preferences are ever changing. I went through a phase where all I drank was IPA. And I'm talking the hard stuff. Stone IPA and the like.
