It would be amazing to win the lottery tonight, and finally cash in those "rig the lottery" chips that Bettman gave Edwards for helping end the lockout, and then getting the new arena built.

Then fast forward 5 years and Iginla is the best player from the draft anyway, haha

but seriously, a lottery win in the next 3 years might be needed to have a rebuild worthy of a cup winning team

Saying this in a non-controversial way and a genuine way. I remember the decade of darkness and the draft lottery is what I had to look forward to. It sucks to lose but at the same time, the opportunity to get a game changing player makes it exciting so today should be that for you guys.

Obviously can't predict who wins but I will say Anaheim. Would love an eastern conference team to win it.

I'm one of a handful of Flames fans from a community in small-town Saskatchewan that sits almost exactly between Edmonton and Calgary, yet because of the 80s, it's an Oilers stronghold. Growing up in Oilers territory stoked a fierce rivalry in my family/friends, as I was a boisterous supporter despite being greatly outnumbered. And this was during the 7-year playoff drought, so not much to cheer about for a long time. The hate for the Oilers runs deep, my friends. I firmly believe my dislike of the Oilers overshadows my love of the Flames.

Why does this matter? The name of the town: Macklin.

So, a bit of serendipitous fate from a lifelong Flames fan (mostly sufferer). Here's to hoping that a bit of Macklin magic can work in our favor today!

the crappy part must have been winning it only 4 times; 7 other times you had to settle for top 10 picks. Thats only a .364 lottery winning percentage

I'd be ok with us saving all our hockey karma for winning the draft lottery in 2026.

Gavin. McKenna. Pack your $h!t. You're comin' to Calgary.

We can win the 2026 lottery with Vegas' pick.

I am just glad the Flames didn't host a draft lottery party. Don't celebrate being here. Take the win and move along. Only exception would be 2026 when they have the draft lottery party for the Mckenna draft. That will be more because the Vegas pick though.

The draft lotter odds are slightly misleading. For example, San Jose has an 18.5% of winning the lottery, but they still have a 25.5% chance of getting the 1st overall pick due to the fact a team that wins can only move up 10 spots, therefor if any of the 12-16 placed teams wins, San Jose still maintains the top spot.

The crappy part was Yakupov was one of the 4 wins and that draft year was awful. Yakupov. Ryan Murray and Galchenyuk were the top 3 picks.

The McDavid win was obviously the game changer (didn't have #1 odds that year). RNH year was interesting because the top 3 that year were RNH, Landeskog and Huberdeau. 2 of those 3 are in the top 3 for points in that draft (Huberdeau, RNH) but there are actually other players in the top 15 of that draft that people would probably take now (Zibanejad, Scheifele, JT Miller).

I'm really liking the bold statements in this thread where we are winning the lottery - let's try something new and see if it works, why the hell not!

The Calgary Flames have won the draft lottery and will pick 1st overall in the 2024 NHL Draft.

I assume you are referring to round 1? pretty sure the top 3 scores in that draft are Kucherov, Gaudreau and Huberdeau?
