I wouldn't even trade a 2nd rounder for Drouin straight up. I understand that may not make sense to a lot of people but there it is.

Well thank Christ you are not our GM then. If our 1st ended up anywhere outside the top 10 I would happily shuttle it off for Drouin. Kid has world class talent.

If wanting guys in the organization with high levels of character, class and work ethic is wrong, I don't wanna be right.

And we are sure Drouin doesn't?
People said the same things about Seguin and who wouldn't love to have him now.
Also, players can learn and mature.

The second point is valid. The first is a non-comparable. Seguin never sat out at any time, let alone during an existing contract.

I wonder what's easier to fix, partying/drinking problems or self-entitlement/attitude problems?
I feel like our management is fairly good at handling these kinds of situations.

I'm pretty excited to see what the Flames will do leading up to the deadline. It'll be nice when things actually do happen though, we're gnawing at each others heels in eager anticipation in here.

Aaron Portzline on the Fan960 suggesting the BJs might move Hartnell. He's a guy I wouldn't mind having. Would give us a top two line 20+ goal power forward.

We need to trade Kris Russell. Ladislav Smid is so much better it's not even funny.

If he was 10 years younger. Don't see the point in trading for a guy his age.

Most successful teams have at least a couple vets. With how many under 25 forwards we ice in the top two lines its not gonna hurt to have a vet play with them. I don't think Hartnell is done. He's another guy that can stand in front of the net and brings a physical presence. Good goal scorer as well.
I'm not sure we're going to go with Stajan and Frolik as the only veteran forwards. He'd make us tougher to play against IMO depending on the price.

Hartnell, while certainly on the back 9, is exactly the type of player this team needs.
A good sized, physical, shift disturbing winger that can score goals. Like David Jones, if David Jones were actually good and consistent.
Depending on the cost he'd be fantastic addition FDW.
Gaudreau - Monahan - Hartnell
S Bennett - Matthews - Frolik
(yeah, I went there haha)
Also, speaking of Columbus, JJ would be another nice piece we could use to solidify the top 4 D group. Again, no idea on cost, or even if he'd be available, and the Flames would have to rid themselves of some dead weight, but a big, fast top 4 D man like him would solidify the D core IMO.
Giordano - Brodie
Johnson - Hamilton

Hartnell brings size on the wing that can play in a top 6 role.
I'm all for it if there isn't a big acquisition cost.

4.75m a year until the end of 2018-2019. Steep.

I love Hartnell, but he's still got 3 years left after this one @ 4.75M.
If the Jackets retained 50%, he'd have value. I doubt they would though.

That's only a problem for Calgary because of all the dead weight the team is shuffling around.
Next year there are some big raises coming online, but Calgary is going to be able to subtract about 4 million from their goalie budget
I mean, the contract isn't attractive, but it's only .75 more than hudler's making now and it's not like Hartnell is bad, he's on pace for another 20-30 goal season and has only scored less than 20 goals once in the last decade.
A guy like Hartnell is exactly what the Flames need. If the Flames don't think they can land Lucic in the offseason, I would target Hartnell in a trade then.

I would rather have Frolik/Okposo/Ladd aged vets than 33-34 year old vets. There's a fairly large difference in age between these vets.
Perreault, who is a vet (only 28) is on pace for 55-60 points was signed for cheap. I'd rather get players like this.
Rebuilding teams should stick to the plan and get vets that can still be serviceable 3 years down the line.
Luckily, I am basically certain the Treliving has enough common sense to not take someone like Hartnell unless Columbus adds.

He would be perfect on the top line but even more so it would give us an established, proven 20-30 goal guy on the PP. We deperately need that net front big body out there on the powerplay.

You guys are nuts re: Hartnell
Nice that he is playing like a 27 year old this year, but how much longer can that last with his play style?

Agreed. 4.75 is to much for 3 more years. Really like him right now but its too risky.
If we had more coming off the books this summer than maybe.
